Birthday suprise (chapter 50)

Lucas sat in his office with his friends,he handed documents to Cecil and Chris,after reading the documents suprise was written all over their faces,Chris looked at his friend to confirm whether he was joking or serious but by the looks of it Lucas seemed serious "you want to buy shares of Louis construction company?" asked Chris suprised "yes" come a quick reply "but why?why are you suddenly interested in a construction company?" he asked,Lucas was a share holder of different companies,it was normal for business people but Chris couldn't understand why his friend was suddenly intrested in a consturction company,Lucas didn't have any knowledge about construction and the company he was investing in was at country X,a country that Lucas avoided the most."He what?" asked Cecil shocked,she took Chris papers and read them with disbelief "both Louis construction company and Mozart entertainment company? why the sudden interest?" she asked,Chris was beyond shock he had thought he was only interested in Louis company but he was wrong,Lucas didn't want to give much details "I have my reasons" he said "reasons really?Lucas don't you consider me as your friend anymore?,I haven't forgotten how you went on a mission without telling me and now this don't you think I deserve some explanation?" Chris said hurt,he was still hurt when he got the news that Lucas had gone on a mission without even informing him his friend and business partner,they were friends and he felt he deserved to know especially because he belonged to the organisation,the three of them used to do missions together,plan everything together but now he felt left out.Lucas sighed,he didn't know what to tell his friend,he knew he was being unfair but he couldn't help it,when he had gone on a mission it wasn't planned he just changed his mind and decided to go on a mission but even after explaining to his friend it seemed he was still upset "trust me I'll soon tell you everything,but for now just do me this favour" he said.

"What should we do?" Cecil asked if Lucas didn't even tell Chris about his plans he knew he wouldn't tell her either "fifty percent of the shares and I should be anonymous" he said,Chris and Cecil looked at him like he had lost his mind,buying fifty percent of a big company's share wasn't easy "what?" Cecil asked unable to hide her shock "fifty percent?" asked Chris he too was shocked "yes....Cecil you take care of Mozart company and Chris Louis construction, will you be able to do it?" he said,he had a plan on his mind and now he was putting it into motion.His friends didn't questions him further,when it come to business no one was better than Lucas and money wasn't a problem to him,Chris nodded his head,he felt sorry for the companies who will soon be facing his wrath,he didn't know what they had done to annoy him but he knew soon the companies will be suffering it hasn't been long since a company went bankrupt because of Lucas,Cecil could mostly guess why Lucas did all of this,that's because she knew Louis construction belonged to Jennifer's father.After discussing for more than two hour Cecil left leaving Lucas and Chris,Chris looked at Lucas as if he wanted to say something but he was hesitating "you got something to say?" Lucas asked,he could tell his friend had something to say "mmn....yes.....you know..... today it's your birthday....wh... what's your plan?" he said with difficulty "nothing after work I'll just go home" he said "how about a little celebration? you're turning thirty and soon you will get your inheritance" Chris asked "no need to" Chris looked at his friend and said nothing else,he well knew why Lucas never celebrated his birthday but he had hoped this time it would be different but it seemed his friend hasn't moved on and still scared to celebrate his birthday "well if you don't want to celebrate I won't force you,I just want to wish you a happy birthday" he said,Lucas smiled "thanks" he said emotionless,Chris wasn't hurt or suprised by his indifferent he was used to it, every time he wished his friend a happy birthday that's the response he always gets.

Jennie was in the kitchen busy preparing a cake,she wore an apron her hair messy tied in a loose bun,after one hour the cake was ready,she looked at the cake and she was satisfied,she stored the cake at a safe place and headed to the living room,the housekeeper was already done with the house decoration "you look tired you should rest don't push yourself too much I'll take care of everything" the housekeeper said concerned "no need I can manage" she said,she was already at the second trimester and she often got tired easily,the house was well decorated with colourful ballons arch, Lucas' photos,flowers and confetti it was simple yet classy,all these materials jennie had personally shopped for them.With the help of the housekeeper Jennie set the table and after everything was done she headed upstairs to take a shower.Lucas parked his car,he felt depressed and sad with painful memorial flooding his mind,if one saw him they would pity him,he looked unlike him sad and lonely,he never liked or celebrated his birthday,to him his birthday was unimportant day that he wished he could forget,there was another reason he especially didn't like today's birthday and that's because his agreement with Jennie would soon expire,no matter how hard he had tried to be courageous he was afraid to confess his feeling for her,he felt like a coward but he couldn't help it,after today he didn't know which excuse to use to keep Jennie by his side.He got out of his car,putting on a normal look he slowly walked heading to the house,he lightly knocked on the door but there was no response,he was used to either Jennie or the housekeeper opening the door for him,after knocking for a couple of times and not receiving a response he frowned and pushed the door open,for unknown reason he felt anxious.

Lucas mouth opened wide,he looked around the living room in shock,the house was well decorated with a table set for dinner and a cake in the middle of the table with all his favourite foods,a soft music was playing on the background,Jennie who sat at the table smiled at him,she stood up and headed towards him,she wore a dark red dress her baby bump showing,she applied little make up and her hair tied into a bun,she looked beautiful "happy birthday" she said hugging him happily,Lucas was still in shock and didn't react,Lucas heart beat increased with his breath caught in his chest,for a moment he didn't know what to say, letting go of him Jennie patiently waited for his reply "how did you know?" Lucas asked after recovering from his shock "the housekeeper told me" she replied she didn't tell him that the houskeeper had told her that Lucas never celebrated his birthday,she wasn't sure whether to prepare a suprise for him or not,but after thinking that soon they might part ways she decided to celebrate his birthday with him,she didn't know Lucas' friends and she didn't have friends so it was only the two of them "ooh" Jennie raised her eyebrow at his reply "thanks for the surprise" he said,he didn't know how to react or say this was the first time someone suprised him on his birthday.Together they sat on the table,if it wasn't Lucas' birthday one would mistake it for an indoor date,Lucas felt happy and sad at the same time but he didn't want to dissapoint Jennie not after all the efforts she had put in to suprise him,swallowing his bitterness he smiled "thanks alot,did you do all of this?" he asked "the housekeeper helped me" she replied "ooh where is she?" "she left....she said she had something to take care of" Jennie replied,Lucas didn't think much about her absence.After the cut caking,they ate their dinner while chatting happily talking about random stuff,Jennie was sensitive towards Lucas and didn't dare ask about him or his childhood,once they were done they sat on the couch to watch a movie,Jennie poured him a glass of wine while she drank an orange juice,the atmosphere around them was calm and peaceful,they felt happy and comfortable at each others company. Coincidentally the movie Jennie had chosen was a romantic movie,they sat quitely watching the movie,Lucas would sneakingly steal glances at her and he couldn't help but feel his heartbeat increase,once the movie was done it was already late at night a little tipsy Lucas called "Jennie.." Jennie turned to look at him "thanks for today,I really enjoyed spending time together" he said sincerely,Jennie smiled at him "no need to thank me,I'm glad you liked" she said,Lucas held her hand, it's now or never he thought,he leaned close to her and without a warning he kissed her on the lips.
