The Crowd

Toby continued this useless endeavor. He yelled out Eva's name into what seemed like an endless void. His yells filtered out into silence from the multiple conversations occurring. Toby put his hands on his ears and he felt as his eyes started to water. Everyone's eyes were on him, he was the centerpiece. Every time he looked, he wasn't able to find an exit. It was as if they were taunting him.

This crowd was abrasive, and as he yelled out Eva's imperative name, no one even batted an eye. Most people were more interested in getting by or putting something on display.

Toby stood there with his hands on his head and he started to cry. It was as if he was reliving the worst day of his life. Once he reached his breaking point, he ran. He pushed past people while crying and ignored all the angry yells. He needed to leave, leave the crowd, get away from the attention. Why did he listen to her? Why did he let Eva persuade him? Why did she leave him? What is he suppose to do?

He ran not knowing which direction he was in, eventually he bumped into someone. He rammed into a girl's shoulder at full force. This girl was older and taller than him. She had dark brown skin, and long curly hair. The girl looked down at him and asked if he was alright while bending down.

Toby just cried as the ambiguous girl comforted him. Who wouldn't feel sympathetic after seeing a young despondent boy crying. Toby started talking through sobs, and after a while, his stress and fear slowly started to elapse in the arms of this stranger.
