Friends

Toby cried in this stranger's arms while she tried to tell him random things to calm him down. By time the demure boy finished crying, the dark-skinned girl started to walk him back and he had occasional lapses. This girl seemed to be cognizant in dealing with children based on how easily she calmed Toby.

As they were walking, Toby was wiping his tears from his puffy eyes and red nose. Then he heard footsteps. These footsteps increased rapidly, and it sounded like they were aiming for him. Toby turned and was immediately embraced by a small black hair girl.

Eva hugged him and was about to yell at him for leaving, but after seeing Toby's face and puffy eyes she stayed quiet. Toby cried quietly in her arms not noticing Eva shooting daggers at the older girl. It was as if this barbaric girl was interrogating her, and the fact that Toby was crying next to her didn't help.

Her bad conjecture and blatant glares didn't last long as she turned her attention to the little boy crying in her arms.

"W-Why did you leave me there?" Toby said through a series of sobs.

"Well I didn't expect you to break down like a baby. You know I could hear you crying from all the way over there, you crybaby."

Toby smiled a bit, Eva's candor behavior always relieved him.

"Did you at least get the medicine?" Toby said calming down and wiping his tears into her shirt. The piece of medicine that Eva got was disparaged more than anything, but for the sake of Toby she said yes.

"Next time we have to stay away from crowded areas," Toby said. By now both kids were sitting on the floor and Toby was in her arms.

"Alright." Eva responded.

"Promise."

Eva sighed, she didn't think he would make such a big deal out of it.

"I promise to never leave my friend like that again."

"Friend?" Toby asked lifting his head to look up at her face.

"I'm not saying it again," Eva said as she crossed her arms and got a mad expression.

Toby smiled as this word had an emblematic meaning to him. This was the first time Eva ever called him friend.
