Chapter 148: God of Abundance

"The God of Abundance," Freyr. Oaks had already heard this name before.

Thor and Loki mentioned him when they first met Oaks, and Thor even introduced him as the former Vanir warrior.

Because Queen Frigga also came from the Vanir, Freyr had a good relationship with Asgard.

After relinquishing his duties related to war, Freyr took on the role of a God in charge of the nectar, sunlight, and bountiful harvests in Alfheim—

In other words, he grew tired of fighting and decided to retire in a vegetable garden, tending to plants, flowers, and enjoying the sun.

Naturally, he no longer harbored any desire for conflict and spent his days leisurely in Alfheim, a world akin to a sacred land of nature.

During the rebellion instigated by Loki this time, there were three realms in the Nine Realms of Asgard that did not participate in the rebellion.

The oblivious Midgard, the completely sealed Helheim that had been closed for over a thousand years, and Alfheim, the realm ruled by Freyr, the king of Light Elves.

Even Freyr's homeland, Vanaheim, where Queen Frigga also came from, erupted in rebellion.

"Nature Energy in Alfheim is the most potent among the Nine Realms in terms of the characteristics of life... even Asgard cannot compare in this aspect."

Although Frigga couldn't manipulate Nature Energy, she understood the type of power Oaks was utilizing:

"There, your spells may receive a significant boost."

She watched as Oaks's expression turned contemplative, and with a smile, she nodded.

"Being a realm's ruler, Freyr can project the power of Alfheim across realms, much like how the Allfather can project the power of Asgard across the Nine Realms."

"I understand what you mean."

Oaks took a deep breath.

"In other words, with the assistance of Lord Freyr, I can call upon the formidable Nature Energy of Alfheim in Helheim and attempt to heal Baldur."

A slight grin formed on his lips, and he couldn't contain his excitement.

"What an exciting feat to look forward to!"

That's right, if Odin and Frigga 's plan succeeded, it would mean that Asgard would owe Oaks a tremendous debt of gratitude.

Moreover, Oaks would have the opportunity to control the powerful natural energy of Alfheim, which held the strongest Nature Energy among the Nine Realms.

Furthermore...

With the presence of the God of Light, Baldur, in Asgard, would Ragnarok still occur?

Would Thanos still have a chance to set foot on Earth?

It was worth a try!

"It's not that simple, Oaks."

Odin slowly rose from the throne, leaning on the Eternal Spear as he descended from the throne.

"While Freyr, as the king of Alfheim, generally lacks ambition, it doesn't mean that anyone can ask him to do something, especially something as power-draining as projecting energy across realms."

Oaks's excited mood quickly cooled down. What did Odin mean by this?

He himself couldn't command Freyr!

Freyr ruled in his own realm, a land of scenic beauty and abundant resources. There was no need for external interactions. The Light Elves were known in legends for their talents, beauty, and uniqueness.

As long as Freyr didn't rebel, there was no reason for Odin to ask him to undertake such a strenuous task!

Oaks even realized the deeper implications behind Odin's words.

After all, Freyr originated from Vanaheim.

And in the myths and legends on Earth, Freyr came to the territory of the Aesir as an exchange hostage.

Therefore, this God of Abundance from Vanaheim probably wouldn't be too keen on seeing Odin's son being rescued, even if Baldur was from the same lineage as Queen Frigga.

Even though his relationship with Odin and his family seemed fine.

Odin looked at Oaks's ever-changing expression and nodded in satisfaction. This newly anointed sage of his indeed possessed the wisdom befitting the title of a sage.

"It seems you have a general understanding of some of the legends surrounding Freyr..."

Odin had already approached Oaks, and Frigga took a step back, standing beside Odin.

He looked at this Midgardian who had always behaved with humility and courtesy, but hadn't even performed the ritual of kneeling during his anointment ceremony, and earnestly asked:

"Even so, are you still willing to accept this challenge—

even though I haven't promised you anything yet?"

"I need detailed information about the God of Abundance, Freyr, and the natural environment of Alfheim, the more detailed, the better."

Oaks didn't agree immediately but instead stated his own requirements directly:

"Additionally, I also need detailed information about the God of Light, Baldur, the more detailed, the better."

"No problem, Frigga will personally arrange that for you."

Odin nodded calmly. If Oaks had agreed right away, he would have found it unreliable:

"Do you have any other requests?"

"...If I deem it necessary during the course of this matter, I hope to receive assistance from Asgard."

Oaks pondered for a while before speaking slowly:

"This includes information, equipment, and personnel."

"...That can be arranged. I promise, but it must not involve fundamental secrets of Asgard."

Odin didn't hesitate to agree.

Because Baldur's situation was indeed too important.

During the hostage incident back then, the Aesir tricked the Vanir.

Freyr, one of the strongest forces of the Vanir, was brought over to retire in Alfheim. Although the Sword of Freyr was destroyed by his own mess, this grudge couldn't be resolved.

Freyr seemed to be fine with Odin's family, but that was because of the face of his fellow countrywoman, Frigga.

And in this rebellion, although Freyr didn't participate, among the high-ranking figures who questioned Thor's qualification to ascend the throne of Asgard, there was this God of Abundance!

It was just that Odin hadn't informed Thor about it.

After accepting Odin's task, Oaks began familiarizing himself with the necessary information with the help of Frigga.

The information about Freyr was generally similar to the myths of Earth, but Oaks discovered a hobby of his that could potentially pose obstacles—

Setting various trials for outsiders.

It was a game enjoyed by the indigenous Light Elves of Alfheim, teasing and playing pranks on outsiders.

But in Freyr's case, whether it was a game or not was hard to say.

Additionally, Oaks also learned that Alfheim wasn't truly peaceful and tranquil like a sacred land of nature.

It had dangerous borderlands connecting with other realms, such as the Dark Forest, various monsters, and even swamps.

Especially now, with the increasing presence of the signs of Ragnarok.

As for the information about Baldur, it made Oaks even more awkward.

Although Baldur was adored by Frigga, he wasn't a frivolous playboy.

"Baldur is handsome, innocent, and joyful. His golden hair and fair face seem to radiate light eternally. All things love him, and he loves all things."

In short, Baldur seemed destined to become a king.

"Well, Thor also doesn't seem interested in becoming a king... probably."

Oaks sighed and put down the information in his hand, taking a deep breath:

"It seems I need the help of a special individual."
