Chapter 149: God of Deception

Asgard, the dungeon.

Powerful energy fields formed protective barriers around the cells, while elite prison guards patrolled constantly.

Most of the cells housed several prisoners, but there were some individuals with special statuses who were granted their own private rooms.

For example, the former "Second Prince" of Asgard.

Actually, Oaks had mixed feelings when he decided to choose Loki, the guy who had once caused him a lot of trouble, to help him. Loki had fallen from being the Second Prince to the Third Prince, and now he had directly become the Fourth Prince...

Originally, Loki wanted to become the King of Asgard by kicking Thor out of the picture. But if he continued on, not only would he have to kill the "Real Big Brother," but he would also have to deal with a formidable elder sister who would blow Asgard up.

It was really troublesome.

However, when he saw him lying on the bed in the cell, casually tossing a wine glass, he still felt...

It would probably be more satisfying to give him a little excitement and lighten his own mood.

"Oh... am I seeing things? Look who I've found!"

When Oaks entered the prison cell with the help of Queen Frigga, surprise on Loki's face was probably not faked... probably.

"That annoying Druid? In Asgard?"

"Hey, Loki, long time no see... Here we are again."

Loki sat on the bed while Oaks stood about two meters in front of him.

"In fact, I've been in Asgard for a few months already. I was wondering why I hadn't seen you... I didn't expect the prince to be enjoying life.

Tsk, and you even have your own private room. Not bad conditions."

"..."

Even though Loki was the God of Deception, he was still provoked by Oaks's taunting and harbored a deep-seated hatred. But as a mage, he still needed to maintain a certain level of elegance.

"Mother... Huh? You seem to have gotten younger? What's going on?

Did you see that I was bored and sent him here to relieve my boredom?"

"Tsk, do I seem like I can't defeat you?"

Oaks pursed his lips.

"In this environment, do you believe I can't pin you down and rub you against the ground?"

And then he was satisfied to see Loki's face darken instantly.

Loki could never forget what Oaks had done to him during the Battle of New York.

Not to mention if this prison cell could accommodate his stellar bear form!

Queen Frigga, on the other hand, was quite satisfied with Loki's current state, even though she didn't want to see him at all when he was still crazy before.

Perhaps, as Oaks had said, this mission was not only a good opportunity for Loki to redeem himself but also a chance to correct his extremist personality?

"Loki, Oaks has been anointed as a sage by your father and appointed as a royal advisor."

She solemnly informed Loki of Oaks's situation, who had a face full of disbelief.

"Oaks is a great contributor to Asgard. You must not—"

"Contributor?! Haha! So Odin is already... Hmph! I should have expected it!"

Loki couldn't sit still anymore. He stood up and paced back and forth in the room with a face full of deep remorse...

If he had waited until Odin was on his last legs before suddenly appearing and catching Thor off guard, there would have been hope for the throne!

But then again, the one who gave him the scepter couldn't wait that long.

Who knows how long Odin's so-called hidden injuries can hold up!

"Loki! He's your father—"

"He's Thor's father!" Loki waved his hand impatiently, interrupting Frigga.

"And what about me? Am I your mother?"

"..."

Loki gritted his teeth and didn't say a word. After a while, he realized—

"So, what exactly are you here for? Bringing an Earthling to witness my humiliation? He has made contributions to Asgard, so what does it have to do with me!"

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, and then put on his signature smile. He said as he pointed to his single bed, "I'm just a simple prisoner in Asgard."

"Good composure..."

Oaks applauded lightly, while Frigga sighed and patted Oaks's shoulder.

"It's up to you from here, Sage Oaks... I'm afraid I'm not suitable to eavesdrop on your conversation. No matter what you discuss... I'll be back in an hour."

"Please rest assured, Your Majesty. Leave it to me."

Oaks slightly bowed, and Frigga glanced at Loki with a complex look in her eyes before disappearing from the prison cell.

"Oh... negotiations?"

A hint of disappointment flashing in Loki's eyes as he watched Frigga disappear, but he immediately regained his cunning demeanor.

He looked at Oaks, who was standing there with his hands folded and a smile on his face.

"So, you're in need of my help?"

Loki returned to his single bed and sat down with a flourish. He tilted his head and looked at Oaks with a sarcastic smile.

"Why would you think I would help you? Especially now..."

He rubbed his chin and his gaze wandered, as if searching for an escape route.

"Actually, it doesn't have to be you."

Oaks chuckled lightly and shook his head slowly.

"It's just that Thor is out trying to quell the rebellion, and there aren't many people in Asgard that I'm familiar with. In order to fulfill the mission of your father, Odin, I think it's better to have an acquaintance."

"I said he's Thor's father!"

Loki sneered.

"My identity is not a secret. The whole of Asgard knows it. You don't need to act so sympathetic!"

"Alright, Loki Laufeyson..."

Oaks's address made Loki's eye twitch violently, but he couldn't refute it.

That was his true name, although his biological father, King Laufey of the Frost Giants, had been killed by his own hand in front of Odin and Frigga.

"King Odin has given me a mission and promised that I can access the people and resources of Asgard."

Oaks shrugged.

"The reason I thought of you, aside from wanting to find an acquaintance, is that... perhaps this mission has something to do with you."

At that moment, Oaks told him about the mission under his increasingly widening gaze.

After listening, Loki was dumbfounded.

After a while, he chuckled nervously, almost like a nerve-wracking laugh.

"Hehehe... So, it turns out I've been wrong all along..."

"Baldur, the God of Light... Odin's eldest son... the rightful heir to the throne..."

Suddenly, he seemed to have figured something out, and a trace of satisfaction appeared on his face.

"Haha! It seems like I have no hope of the throne at all, but that idiot Thor doesn't need to continue plaguing Asgard!"

He suddenly became excited, but then frowned and sat back down slowly.

"No... wait a minute, we've never even heard of Baldur from childhood to now. This guy has been presumed dead for so many years, how can he possibly rule Asgard?!"

"Ragnarok? Well, that definitely needs to be resolved. But the throne of Asgard, I cannot hand it over to someone who appeared out of nowhere!"

He looked sharply at Oaks.

"What do you plan to do? Tell me the details!"

"...As you wish."
