It’s the year 2073, and everything has changed. New high-tech dominates almost all aspects of life. However, this has a dark side: unethical human experiments.
  17-year-old Akira Cruz, the genius nephew of the president of the Philippines, was in the middle of grieving for his late best friend when he stumbled upon an abandoned orphan boy in the mountains while on a hike with his younger sister. That boy is Hachi Shimizu, a half-zombie, half-vampire who was disposed of by an evil organization known as the Kara Tech, which was notorious for its brutal and unethical experiments.
  Together, the two boys team up with a detective named Toshi Kawasaki, a half-Japanese, half-British who specializes in the supernatural and also considers the murder case of Akira’s best friend open despite the police closing it due to a lack of evidence. The three of them believed that Kara Tech was somehow connected to the disappearances of various children in and around the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. As they go and solve cases, their friendship blossoms, especially when two people,  Riho Yoshihara, Akira's childhood, biracial friend, and Htet Kawa, a half-Japanese, half-Burmese junior detective from Yokohama, come along in their various missions, both involving the supernatural and the overworld. Will they stop the organization from committing more heinous crimes before it’s too late?

My Best Friend is a Hybrid

And so, at lunchtime on the school rooftop, Akira asked Hachi about Isao Akamine and whether he knew him or not. Hachi, who was sitting next to Aiko while eating slowly and solemnly, then heard that and looked at him. "Yes, I know him. That guy was my frenemy."

This changed the atmosphere on the school rooftop.

"Wait, wha…?" Riho added, "…frenemy? What in the…?"

"What did Isao-kun do to deserve your hatred?" Aiko added as well.

At first, Hachi didn't want to talk about it but eventually gave in and revealed to them the reason for his hatred of Isao to release some pressure off his chest. According to him, Isao was an annoying brat who was the eldest son of the CEO of Kara Tech. his personality consisted of being bratty, arrogant, selfish, self-centered, and selfishly ambitious. One of those ambitions was to be like his father. Hachi had a lot of beef with Isao back in his days at Kara Tech. Isao, in his view and experience, was a total jerk to him in those days.

After Hachi's long and detailed explanation, Akira and the others were shocked and felt sorry for him. Aiko placed her hand on his left shoulder. "It's okay, we're here for you, Hachi-kun…"

Hachi noticed that and was taken aback by it mildly.

"Yes," Akira added positively, "we'll make sure that guy won't hurt or bully you, too."

Because of their promise and assurance of his well-being and safety, Hachi became positive and relieved. "Thanks, you guys…"

"Alright!" Riho said to them all. "We're now like Team Cruz!"

"Yup!" Akira nodded happily. "We're all in this together!"

Hachi eventually agreed with them.
