Relief washed over Haruto as the dust settled around him. He can finally stay calm for short period with peace until he processed what happened.
Yumi, despite her injury, stood protectively in front of him, a defiant glint in her eyes. The remaining ice woman lay lifeless on the ground, what seemed like a dream to haruto is the cruel reality. He is still processing why the ice woman would want to attack him, and rather why they exist
"You're reckless, Yumi" Haruto chided, he scolded but laced with concern.
"Well, Sorry for protecting YOU, I guess...You almost got yourself killed, I should have let you die. " She said in a cold and indifferent expression
Haruto winced, the throbbing pain in his back. "Sorry," he mumbled, he didn't have much time to argue with her.
"I guess I panicked and didn't trust you well."
Yumi sighed, her gaze softening slightly. "It's alright, you sure have a sweet smile." she smiled while placing her hand on her mouth.
"But next time, try to believe in me and my skills ."Yumi peristed
"Next time?" Haruto echoed, his voice rising in disbelief. He has to fight them next time, no fucking way.
"What do you mean 'next time'? Don't you get it? Those women, they weren't normal! They could control ice – they were some kind of..."
Yumi's smile vanished, replaced by a serious expression. "Supernatural beings," she finished his sentence, her voice barely a whisper.
Haruto stared at her, his mind reeling. Supernatural beings? Yeah they have bizzare powers, but the way she is so sure made him feel life being left out of the place
"Explain, you never told me anything. Please do now" he asked cautiously.
Yumi nodded grimly. "There's a whole world hidden just beneath the surface," she explained.
"A world of magic, mythical creatures, and ancient threats. Our clan, the hayakawa are protectors of this world, tasked with maintaining the balance between the humans and the supernatural beings."
Haruto's jaw dropped. Everything he thought he knew about the world was a lie. "Wait, the Hayakawa? That's... is that why your name is Yumi since your clan uses bows? And the way you fought those women, with the sword...is bit out of place"
Yumi let out a small laugh "That's a story for another time, a hint of sadness lurking in her eyes."
"Yes, I inherited some of my mother's abilities. But that's not all. Haruto,"
She continued, her voice dropping to a low murmur, "there's something different about you too. Something I felt the moment you touched the teacup that day."
Haruto's heart pounded in his chest. "Different? What do you mean? When you did?"
"You remember the day I first gave you tea to calm down after beating Akira at the club that " Yumi responded seriously and pointed out
She sure is a scary woman, haruto noted her short temper
"Yeah...So that's the point of the tea you made. What the tea did to me? " Haruto asked questioning how much he can trust her as a friend. She sure did outrageous things but she protected him so it's fair he listens to what he says and forms his opinion.
"That wasn't just any tea," Yumi said softly, her voice laced with a hint of apprehension.
"It was a special blend, passed down through generations in my family, with calming properties."
Haruto stared at her, as if he is questioning why she would give him that kind of tea. Maybe it is calm and soothing but why she gave him out of all other people.
"Ever since you have joined the club, I can't help but notice something odd. I mean you occasionally faint and looks little weak, I can't help but check your state, and I finally something odd " Yumi stated as she stared into haruto's eyes.
"What do you mean by odd? I am little anaemic, and clumsy. That isn't much bad " Haruto objected.
"No. There's something you don't remember, Haruto, have you felt too much dizzy you have slept in middle of the road or found yourself unconcious on the road" Yumi continued, her voice dropping to a low murmur.
"Sometimes, I feel so sleepy that I am a heavy sleeper " Haruto replied
"Those with Akagi blood possess immense power," Yumi continued, her voice laced with a hint of awe and trepidation.
"But with that power comes a curse. Under extreme stress, the darkness awakens, transforming the bearer into a berserker, a raging beast capable of horrific destruction."
Haruto also admitted he isn't sure he didn't feel that, yumi glared at him when he said that.
"And the tea I gave you acts as supressant, delaying and holding the beast down " She responded as if sizing haruto
You don't remember the incident, Haruto," Yumi said, her voice soft yet firm. "But the signs were there – the unexplained destruction around you, the sudden outbursts of rage."
He flinched at the mention of rage. Vague memories flickered – a red haze clouding his vision, a primal urge to lash out. But they were just fragments, nothing more.
"How do you know all this?" Haruto finally managed, his voice barely a croak.
"About my family, about this bloodline? You know more about me than I do about myself!"
Yumi hesitated, a flicker of sadness crossing her features. "There's a lot you don't know, Haruto," she admitted.
Yumi knelt before him, her gaze searching his face. "There's something you don't remember, Haruto," she said softly. "A darkness within you, a legacy passed down through generations – the Akagi bloodline."
The angle offered a brief glimpse of cleavage, barely a sliver visible through the fabric of her shirt. Haruto was too stressed to realize, maybe it is the tea.
"Um, what kind of bloodline, I have never heard of this."Haruto stared at her, his mind a whirlwind of confusion and terror. Akagi bloodline what the fuck is bloodline she keeps mentioning
"I pity you. I think they didn't even bother explaining properly to you. They pick one successor and toss the rest aside like yesterday's trasht. " She stated
Haruot interjected"I wasn't thrown away...they just found me useless and un-"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence" Yumi stopped him
"Haruto don't justify child neglect with lack of capability, and don't degrade yourself further. Just because they were too incompetent to see your potential doesn't mean you're worthless!" Yumi scoffed, a sound that surprised him.
He responded with a hesitant smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "What does that even mean?"
Yumi crossed her arms, a pout forming on her lips. "It means... it means you're an idiot for putting yourself down! You have this incredible power coursing through your veins, this legacy waiting to be unlocked, and all you can think about is being 'useless'? Honestly!"
Haruto chuckled softly, a genuine sound that surprised even him. Despite the strange situation, a warmth bloomed in his chest. Here was this girl, who he thought disliked him, defending him against his own self-doubt.
"I thought you disliked my guts when we are at school? " he asked, the question lingering in the air.
Yumi's fluster deepened. "About... everything! Like, how some of your stares can be a little... well, inappropriate!" she stammered, her voice barely a whisper.
Haruto's smile widened. "Stares? I have no idea what you're talking about," he teased, through his innocence.
Yumi sputtered, her face burning a fiery red. "Oh, don't play dumb! Like the way you check out every girl who walks by with a… a distracting figure!"
Haruto threw his hands up in mock surrender, a burst of laughter escaping his lips. "Alright, alright, I confess! Maybe I do notice pretty girls sometimes. But you are one of them too!"
Yumi huffed, tugging at the corner of her own lips "Hmph! Whatever, you oaf. Just because I yell at you sometimes doesn't mean I actually hate you."
"Coming to the point, those with Akagi blood possess immense power," Yumi continued, her voice laced with a hint of awe and trepidation.
"But with that power comes a curse. Under extreme stress, the darkness awakens, transforming the bearer into a berserker, a raging beast capable of horrific destruction."
", I believe you may possess a latent power, a hidden potential that awakened during the fight. That's why you were able to able to enter into beast but my tea stopped it from entering it. That's the simple description." Yumi went serious and Haruto didn't want to make much jokes and ask his doubts.
"Oh, what about this?" he said, his voice slightly higher than usual.
"It has a spear on the end, like a fancy stick, I guess. I just kinda... grabbed it and fought back." Haruto said as he held up the staff with spear on it's tip
Yumi's gaze flickered to the staff, her eyes widening almost instantaneously. She reached out a hand, hesitantly at first, then stopped just before making contact with the smooth wood. A strange tension filled the air
Yumi ignored his quip, her eyes fixed on the staff with a mixture of awe and apprehension. "It is," she said.
"The staff is said to be imbued with divine energy, capable of channeling immense power. But..." her voice trailed off, a flicker of doubt crossing her features.
She cleared her throat, trying to regain her composure. "But only those with a pure heart or people with strong connection to the light can wield it, people who like you couldn't wield. It's so strange. " she finished, her gaze locked on Haruto's.
"Come on~ I am not that bad, maybe... I am pure fun loving guy in heart " Haruto responded
"Haruto it's serious. Akagi family is the last kind of group would be able to even touch it and you did it so well, it is so bizzare that even chinese novels won't have these kind of twists. Are you sure you are from Akagi family?" Yumi asked
