I'm not taking a break, I'm enjoying intermission

She awoke to the sound of a thunderstorm, her eyelids fluttering open. Her body was warm and cozy and she was pleasantly drowsy, her mind drifting slowly into wakefulness. She didn't move right away, she felt so relaxed and comfortable that she simply wanted to lie there.

A sudden splitting crackle and rumble of thunder made her jump, and she moved to sit up, startled and suddenly yanked to full awareness from her pleasant sleep.

A pair of arms wrapped around her waist. She paused, looking over her shoulder. She could barely make out the silhouette of a head of hair, and the feel of the arms around her waist. The room was. Dimly lit.

It was hard to pinpoint what time of night or day it was, because the light outside was just enough to make the fires inside look dim, but not bright enough to make everything look clear and crisp.

...Maybe that was just her own hazy eyes, though.
