Chapter 53

Ah, secrets. I don't like having them, but sometimes I need to. At least until I could sort things out in my own head. After reading that letter, I had quite a few things to sort.

So, someone else wanted me dead. Big, big shocker. I had that effect on people, it seemed. Some people and a familiar did not want me dead, though, and that's where the secrets came in. To protect them, just like they'd want to protect me.

I stuffed the letter in my back pocket and turned. Boxy stood in the open garage with his hand out, waiting.

"Well?" he said.

"It's just yesterday's letter sent again."

"She didn't answer any more questions?"

"Nope," I said evenly as I breezed past him. "Maybe another letter's coming. I'm going to call Travis and then go talk to Mrs. Salmon. Can you hold down the fort for a bit?"

"Sure..."
