I blinked hard. "She is?"
Mrs. Salmon nodded. "She loved Jake with her entire heart. What you did for him and the rest of his family by helping to put his murderers behind bars... She would've been very thankful. You're a hero."
"Oh. That." I shifted my feet uncomfortably. Those events still felt weird to think about, like all of it had happened to someone else. Maybe that someone else was a hero, but not me. All I'd been trying to do was save my business, not get framed, and survive. You know, basic everyday stuff.
"Yes. That." Mrs. Salmon laughed. "Ruby was Jake's grandmother's name. We grew up as next-door neighbors. Both our families were dirt poor."
My jaw dropped. "Really?" I swept my hand to her perfectly trimmed lawn, her mansion, and her glittering jewels. "You sure about that?"
