Chapter 123

Meteorite landing in three, two - uh-oh!

I was plummeting straight into Sunray's rooftop. It had seemed like such a good idea to help me avoid Other Me. Now? Not so much.

"Light, lighter, lightest. My arms are now featherweight. High, higher, highest. My body and spirit shall now levitate," I said in a rush.

Magic seemed to burst open inside of me. A soft pillow of air caught me half an inch from the roof. A split second before that, though, my feet spun in one direction. My face in another. The Ring of Everlasting Night tumbled out of my pocket and landed in that tiny space between my nose and the roof.

"Why are you so intent on imprinting my nose all the time?" I whispered to it.

Groaning, I touched down to the solid surface, stood, and brushed myself off. If I waged a war with gravity and momentum, they would always win. They never, ever failed, unless probably if you're a cat. Because science always makes an exception for cats. Sadly, I am not a cat.
