Upon hearing the words 'Greater Light Fiend', everyone started panicking, not least because a large portion of the students and more than a few teachers had perished instantly. I honestly had no idea how dangerous this second sun in the sky was, but I didn't plan to stick around and find out.
Unfortunately, with the crowd stirred into a frenzy, I could hardly move for fear of falling and being trampled. The Greater Light Fiend had temporarily halted its attacks after killing dozens of unsuspecting victims, though I had no doubt it could easily wipe all of us out if it so wished. However, I got the feeling that it was searching for something….
Chills ran down my spine as an outlandish thought struck me. All around me, defensive spells were being cast en masse, along with a few conjurations that shrouded our group in darkness, but I had a suspicion that none of it would matter, not if my idea was true….
"H-how are Lesser Light Lords born, mentor?" I asked one of the teachers nearby.
He paused for a second before answering, "They're born from much stronger Light Elementals… oh."
The realization struck him as he confirmed my worst fears. He gave a defeated sigh before turning to inform one of his colleagues, who stiffened upon hearing the news.
A moment later, a terrible sound could be heard from the Greater Light Fiend, like the keening of a parent for their dead child… which was exactly what had happened here.
Furious waves of pulsating light assaulted the fragile defenses that enveloped us as the teachers exchanged grim looks. Simultaneously, as if they had come to an agreement, they raised their hands and started chanting in a strange language. Multiple large runic circles formed on the ground, with them as the centerpoints for each.
The students started clamoring, desperately trying to get into the range of the circles. There were hundreds of surviving students and only a dozen teachers left, with each circle being barely sufficient to fit in five students aside from the caster, more than half of the remaining students would be left out.
Even though I happened to be within one of the glowing circles, I was nearly pushed out with all the jostling, and only just managed to avoid being forced out. Somehow, I managed to remain in until the teachers all stopped chanting, at which point the circles on the ground suddenly emitted a blinding illumination, forcing me to shut my eyes.
When I opened them again, we were in a completely different area… we being just me, the teacher and the other four students, as well as… a neatly severed arm.
Leaving the arm aside for a moment, all of the other teachers and students had mysteriously disappeared, and furthermore the environment seemed to have changed completely. It was clear that we had been teleported somewhere, but… where exactly were we?
