The Cold After

Maria was an excellent consigliere. One of the best in the business. And she was not just bragging or making things up. She knew that she was a good advisor based on facts. She had never steered her Don wrong, and even when they found themselves in a mess, she was always in the thick of things, solving the crisis.

When Don Romano gave orders, Maria followed them, even if she was not quite sure exactly where they were going, she trusted him. 

But this particular order…

"Burn her to ashes and pour her down the nearest drain," It did not sit right with Maria. It did not sound like Gio, and it did not feel like him. Had she not been there herself she would have called the person who came to her with such words a liar. But Maria had heard them with her own two ears, and they were definitely a direct order from her Don.
