Chapter Thirty-One

A week had passed, and we had not discussed what happened on Tyrone's birthday. Everything seemed to have returned to normal. He continued to work with me at the shop, and he became even sweeter than before. I couldn't help but wonder what was going on with Tyrone. Each passing day, my love for him grew stronger.

"Diane, someone is looking for you," a colleague informed me. Tyrone still had classes, so he wasn't on shift now. I turned to see who it was that was looking for me. I already knew who it was. My heart raced, and I felt nervous, even though I knew I hadn't done anything wrong. Slowly, I approached him.

"Good afternoon, sir," I greeted him, trying to maintain a neutral tone. Mr. Alfred didn't smile; he looked serious and scrutinizing. I couldn't help but feel uneasy.

"Five hundred thousand pesos," he stated, and placed an envelope on the table. I immediately looked at it, my heart pounding in my chest. I had an idea of what it was for, but I needed confirmation.
