Glancing back at the door he had closed, its silence was as profound as when he had arrived. Nathan Davis pressed his dry lips together, straightening his posture to continue his duty.

 

Avery Miller's complexion paled, her body seemingly struck by an invisible force, slowly sinking to the ground as a silent tear slid down her cheek.

 

Visions of a brutal and bloody scene replayed incessantly in her mind, haunting her with the image of her mother's face in her final moments, eyes wide open with a tear still lingering.
