Chapter 16: Prowling to the Finish Line

Notification: you have gained the rare stealth skill Prowl.

I smile, and Daniel smiles at me. “Which one did you get?” he asks.

“Prowl,” I say.

He seems impressed by that, his eyes tracing up and down my body. Then he clears his throat and refocuses on the moment. “Now try to keep that movement up for a while,” he says. “You should try to stay at normal speed, maybe a bit slower, but focus on the sounds you make. And the sounds you don’t make. I’m going to scout ahead and find us a good spot to make camp. We’re going to have to move slowly until you level up.”

I nod. “Shouldn’t be long,” I say. “Maybe the end of the day if I can learn archery and get some practice.”

By the time we do catch up with Daniel, my Prowl has increased to 3, and I’m only about one hundred and fifty experience from the next level. “Sneak up on me,” he says. “Both of you. If you can get within ten paces of me before I notice you, I’ll do all the camp work today and tomorrow.”
