CHAPTER SEVEN: MEETING WITH A FRIEND

CHAPTER SEVEN: MEETING WITH A FRIEND

“I got a question for you Rosa” I said facing Rosa as she dropped her fruit back into her plate after taking a bite from it

“Go on” she said nodding her head in agreement

“Okay” I said as I dropped my chopping sticks on my plate and faced her “If you were given opportunity to date Samson, would you?”

“What kind of question is that Christiana?” Rosa asked as she looked at me surprised by my questions

“Sorry, I just felt like asking all of a sudden. So… what will be your answer?” I asked her again curious to know her answer since she is always eager to get attention and become famous by all means, that has been Rosa’s behaviour right from Elementary school

“I don’t know yet” she shrugged as she peeled the banana skin from its body

Margaret gasped at what she said as if she knew what that means

“What do you even mean by that?” I asked as I became more curious, confused and surprised by her answer

“Nothing” she said as bit from her banana

“What do you mean by nothing?” I asked as I sat upright cynically

“What is with the question all of a sudden, Christiana?” she asked me as she swallowed whatever that is in her mouth

“What is with your answer also?”

“Do you even trust me and besides, this is our first day, don’t spoil it with these unnecessary questions” she said to me as I put all the dirt in her plate into the nearest bin

“I won’t ask anymore” I said as I continued my lunch minding my business and at the same time furious at her answer

“Are you annoyed?” she asked as she stood up since she is already done with her meals

“I guess not” I shrugged

“Okay, meet you in class. I can’t wait for you two to finish your food, I have to go” she said and walked back to our class after dropping her plates where dirty plates are kept

“Your friend is acting strange” Margaret said as she picked up her chicken and dipped it into her ketchup and ate it. Disgusting!

“She sometimes behave like that, I don’t blame her” I shrugged nodding off the thoughts of Rosa’s behaviour

“Okay, you are a nice friend and I just said that because I think she is the type of friend that betrays her friend” she said as she dipped her chicken into the ketchup again

“Why are you adding ketchup to the chicken?” I asked then thought of what she said about Rosa, my mind went to the facts that Rosa will later betray me “I doubt she will”

“Lol, yours is even more irritating than mine. Who adds Ramen with rice?” she smiled as we burst into laughter, I know not everyone finds Ramen and rice delicious especially if the person didn’t grow up in Asia like me, the same as her own combination in different ways “sorry that I went too far like that about your friendship” she concluded

“Don’t worry, I don’t find it offending” I said waving my hands to show that I am not bothered by what she said even though I am hurt within me

“Okay, I promise not to say anything about that” she said as she put her food combination into her mouth

“Better” I said nodding my head

“Before break is over, let introduce ourselves a little” she said as she drink from her bottle water

“Great idea, we are even sitting next to each other. We can be more than seat partners” I smiled at her idea as I took the last bite of my Ramen

“Yeah, I am Margaret and I am half Korean, half English” she said as I gasped at her response

“No way! My friend, Rosa is half English as well” I smiled “I am a French girl but I was named by my late step grandmother who is not French like my family. She named me because she thought I looked like her when she was still a baby” I answered so as not to confuse her with my name

“Oh… That explains a lot but your name is nothing to worry about because it suits you” she smiled

“Nah, I don’t care about what anyone says about my name because I love my name it reminds me of my late step grandmother” I assured her

“Wow, I love that spirit” she said as she packed her plates together

“Thanks, I hope you don’t mind if I ask this question?” I asked her as I opened my water bottle and drank from it

“I don’t mind” she answered as she closed her bottle water with its cover

“Okay, are you a child of a model? Why did you come to America?” I asked almost immediately eager to let off the suspense from me

“I was a child of a model, my mom resigned from the job to take care of the my elder sister and I after my dad divorced her, so we came to America since she got a perfect job here” she explained to me as if trusting me with these details

“Sad” I said

“Jeez… it is not say, my mom is now a personal assistant to one of the biggest company C.E.O.” she smiled assuring

“Nice but aren’t you missing your dad?”

“Who misses that jerk? I don’t even want to talk about him”

“To be sincere, I wasn’t expecting you to answer me but the way you answered me made me feel like we can be close friends someday” I said to her

“You are already my friend and whatever anyone says about us, we fight it together” she winked at me and smiled

“Okay, just be clear I am not into girls” I said as we both laughed

“Me either” she said

Just then the bell rang and we both packed our plates and put it where dirty plates are kept before leaving for our class

“We can walk to school together” I said to her

“Unfortunately, I got my own driver… he is coming to pick me after school” she said as we walked to class together

“Why did you even apply for a scholarship when you are so rich?” I asked her as we turned to the right

“Mom said, money isn’t everything but with education you can go places and get whatever you want. She just wants me to be intelligent and not to be dependent on her” she answered me
