Chapter 11: Organized Dumps

Junie's eyebrows shot up and she sat up a little straighter. Callie didn't hesitate often, but when she did, it was never a good sign.

Callie pulled one corner of her mouth to the side, then pulled her lips over her teeth, as if she was debating whether she should say what she was about to say. "Your mom called me the other day."

Junie didn't hate her mother. She actually cared about her mom a lot, but any mention of her still caused her face to scrunch up as if she had tasted something sour. "Was she checking up on me again?" Junie guessed, though she already knew it was true.

Callie smiled a sympathetic smile, confirming Junie's suspicion. "She's worried about you," Callie said, in a slightly condescending tone, as if Junie was trying to worry her mother on purpose.
