Chapter 20: Forgotten

“I thought we could take the sky gondola,” Kian said. “The sun is about to set. It should be beautiful.”

She squinted up at the sky. She was shocked by how quickly the time went, but that’s how her whole relationship with Kian had been. Even when they were sitting around and doing nothing, the time raced on and it was time for her to go back home to her tiny, quiet apartment.

When they got to the front of the line to board the small metal boxes, Kian motioned for Junie to get in ahead of him. She yelped when the car swayed a little as she stepped inside, but Kian just carefully guided her into a sitting position before taking the seat across from her. Junie squealed as the car took off faster than she thought it would, a chill running through her as she watched the ground get further and further away.

Kian laughed, scooted to the edge of the small bench, and reached across the space between them so he could grasp her hands in his. “You good?” he asked, humor filling his tone.
