Chapter 24: Like an Incantation

Junie did her best to enjoy the nice two-hour-long car ride to Los Angeles. She tried to suppress her nerves by playing some of her favorite pop songs and looking out the window. As the time ticked by however and they got closer and closer to their destination, her anxiety only grew.

Kian chatted excitedly almost the entire journey, telling stories of his childhood and hometown. Junie did enjoy hearing the fond way he spoke about his family and upbringing. It sounded like he had been just as charismatic and easygoing as a child. He had had a plethora of buddies growing up and spent a lot of time playing outside with a lot of them.

“Did you apply to any colleges in LA?” she asked. “It just seems like you were close to a lot of people here and that it would have made sense to be closer because of it.”

Kian pursed his lips as he drove. “I debated it,” he said. “I even applied to the two schools closest to my parents' place and got accepted.”
