Cavern

Turning around, she saw no one. Quietly, she moved closer to David, considering that she had no idea what was going on. The entire mountain creeped her out, and above all, she had a strong urge to wipe it all out.

David, on the other hand, could be seen staring toward the entrance of the cave. To all, there was nothing there; however, to him, he could see the being that stood there.

It was a being he had become fundamentally familiar with, though such a presence didn't always come with good news.

"…They are using me to punish the sinful, aren't they?" David asked.

"Yes, my lord," the being replied.

"Okay, let's go," David said, grabbing Jean's hand as they began walking deeper into the cave.

The cave got progressively darker, but it didn't faze him at all. After all, he had the brightest light in the entire multiverse beside him. Jean may not control it, but the Phoenix hated disorder enough that Jean glowed in the dark.

"What was that?" Jean asked.

"A Yamaduta,"

"What's that?"

"Think of them as the Buddhist or Hindu grim reapers. They collect souls for King Yama," David explained while looking at the blue-skinned, four-armed being that was following them.

Its presence alone brought down the temperature within the cave by a few degrees. Jean wouldn't notice due to the Phoenix's fury, and he didn't care because he could barely feel changes in temperature.

"That means someone will die here."

"Correction, a Buddhist evildoer will die here. He brought his swords," David replied, laughing.

He always found it funny how the afterlife worked in this world. If you sinned, you still go to hell, but there are over a thousand hell dimensions. If you did well, you go to heaven, but even that had multiple, if not millions, of versions out there.

It was too scattered… well, there is some stability to it though. Yahweh existed in this world, which meant that all sinners would eventually fall into the Christian hell… it's the reason why Mephisto's realm is always empty.

And in a similar manner, all who have lived well will find their way to heaven. Yahweh wasn't just a god here, like Shiva, Odin, and the others—He was the creator.

"Christians really are greedy people," David thought, just before they arrived at a large space.

Looking into the large cavern below them, David saw the Yamaduta jump into the place as he went about his business. His goal was to retrieve the soul of the dead.

"What are we here for?" Jean asked.

"To save someone like you," David replied before walking out of the tunnel they were in.

Unlike the Yamaduta, who had relied on gravity to take him down faster, David simply walked. There was no rush. Looking back, David saw Jean following in his footsteps.

"What? I can do this much," Jean said as David laughed.

"Okay then, let's hurry, it's starting soon," David said as they both sped up.

The deeper they went, the colder and stickier the atmosphere felt. David knew what it was, but Jean, on the other hand, kept getting irritated by it… well, the Phoenix was so irritated it erected a flame barrier around Jean.

The interaction between chaos energy and Jean was funny to watch, but David didn't have that much time on his hands. Quickly flying through the tunnels, they soon arrived at their destination.

It was a slightly smaller cavern than the one they had seen initially, but unlike the other one, there were signs of human activity everywhere. Torches were lit along the way, and soon they were before their destination.

It was a smaller cavern, not much bigger than a regular room. Within it, David could see a small group of people gathered together in a circle—all women of varying ages—and in their center was a young girl who looked no older than them.

"What are they doing?" Jean asked, breaking the silence.

"Trying to initiate her,"

"What?"

...

Since this isn't mentioned in the story, the yamaduta appears to collect the soul of some Buddhist evil doer named Taboo.

He is an actual character in Marvel and while this doesn't happen in Cannon, he is one of the fodder that MC disintegrates
