Maddison looked at the locket for the hundredth time. She tried opening it in every way possible but nothing worked. Normal lockets had a small lock to keep it closed, but this one didn't have it.
Elias noticed what she was doing.
"May I?" He asked as he reached out his hand.
"Sure, I'm all out of ideas," she confessed as she placed it in his hand.
Elias took a closer look at it.
"There seemed to be an additional mechanism inside the locket. Activating it should get it to open," He deduced.
Maddison sighed, "So the question is what would activate the mechanism."
"Yes, and that's if the mechanism is still working. After all, it's more than a decade old at this point."
She'd been trying to recall any memories she'd had from before the orphanage. But nothing ever came to mind. Elias handed it back to her, apologizing that there wasn't more he could do.
"It's alright. I'll just keep trying."
