Chapter 25: Taking Care of Business

Vivian lay on the couch, her arm over her eyes. I saw her through the cottage window. Seeing her there held me in place, my intention to knock completely lost.

Images and sensations of our early morning together raced through my mind. I tried to reign them in. The last thing I needed to be distracted by right now was the softness of her powder-smooth skin or the warmth of her lips or the soft moans she uttered.

I growled and clenched my fists. What was wrong with me? I was acting like a lovestruck puppy.

“Vivian,” I called out to her as I knocked.

“It’s unlocked.”

She hadn’t moved from the couch when I let myself in, her arm still thrown over her eyes.

“Have you heard anything about my sister?” Her voice drawled flatly.

“No.”

“She won’t reply to my messages.” She held her phone out and waved it around. “I think that means she’s in trouble, not plotting something.”

“Perhaps.” I stood by the couch and waited for her to look at me.
