The Main Demon Army!

With a loud whistle, Calyx called his loyal hawk Caceres who was feasting on demon flesh. Stopping its massacre, the hawk picked him up and flew out over the demon horde.

The demons below became even frenzied, neglecting their lives and wellbeing as they charged forward to pave a path of blood for the main demon army.

'Tch. Annoying bugs,' Calyx clicked his tongue even as Caceres soared high, zooming forward at ridiculous speeds.

That was when Calyx saw them; the main demon army.

Unlike the earlier demons who were unarmed, unarmored and moving forward without a care for their lives, these demons were well armored, holding sinister looking weapons.

Emitting dense bloodthirsty auras, they were on a whole different level as compared to the cannon fodder.

They were organized into neat ranks and they dragged cannons and other magic siege weapons of their own behind them.

They were the elite, well trained soldiers of demon kings.

In the Wasteland, there were five demon kings vying for control. They had millions of demons at their command, ready to carry out their bidding.

Even though they didn't get along with each other, one thing united them all; the threat of humanity.

Whenever humans assembled, the five kings put aside all misgivings to work together to destroy their worst enemies.

And this was one of the times all five demon kings were working together.

Calyx could see Scorpion men, four armed Snakemen, Lizard men, Arachnids and the most annoying of them all, harpies.

'This is going to be a long and bloody night,' Calyx sighed.

He could see as many as five hundred thousand Mana Condensation troops, ten thousand Foundation Establishment demons, fifteen Demon Generals at the Core Formation stage and about five or so experts above the Core Formation stage.

As he had noticed them, they too had noticed him and a squadron of screeching harpies locked onto him.

Calyx's danger senses tingled and without hesitation, he leapt off the back of Caceres.

Almost immediately, a poison tipped arrow whizzed past where he had been milliseconds ago. He looked down and spotted a scorpion man archer, eyeing him with hostility.

Taking advantage of his distracted state, the eight harpies after let out a shrill cry which targeted the very depths of his mind.

Calyx winced in pain, wobbling in midair as he felt a spiritual attack smash at his mental defenses.

This was why he hated those damned, blasted harpies.

Though his sword could make quick work of them, they specialized in long range spiritual attacks on the ears and mind, a very unpleasant experience.

Weak people could even be permanently put into a vegetative state due to the power behind their sonic attacks.

[Calamity Wind Art]

Calyx's eyes burned with green fire as he stabilized himself in the air. He spun around like a corkscrew and unleashed a kick which sent a wave of green crescent energy at the harpies.

The wave of crescent energy elongated, increasing to hundreds of feet in length as it whipped out viciously at the harpies.

Their annoying cries temporarily subsided as they struggled to dodge his attack.

Giving them no quarter, Calyx unleashed a flurry of punches, sending colorful green streaks towards the harpies, lighting up the night sky.

One unlucky harpy was directly blasted into pieces and those at the fringes of the attack were instantly blown away, sent flying into the dark night.

At that moment, another arrow whizzed past Calyx face, narrowly missing him.

In midair, Calyx twisted and turned, contorting his body to evade the arrows of the scorpion archers down below.

It was plain suicide to continue fighting the army alone. Thus, Calyx whistled and flew back into the fort.

Caceres met up with him midway and carried him off amidst a rain of arrows from the demon army but they evaded them all.

'Demon army incoming! Hawk Unit, assemble!' Calyx cried out.

In the sky, general Vernon issued orders to those below. 'Let the cannons cool down! Soldiers, take their place and form Pentaformations!

Eagle and Hawk Unit, ignore the small fry, buy time for the cannons!'

The Hawk Unit immediately stopped slaughtering the cannon fodder, pulling up their hawks into neat files in the air.

'Wave formation, three layers! Archers topmost, melee below!' Calyx ordered.

The Hawk Unit shifted into a rhombus-like formation with clear partitions, just like waves. At the very top were those specialized in long distance spells and archery.

They would act as cover and long distance support for members of the Hawk Unit who preferred close combat.

Below them were melee fighters, brandishing their spears and weapons, ready to charge at the enemy.

'Eagle Unit, with me! Arrow formation, let's kill these demon scum!' Bifran roared.

His eagle cawed and took point at the head of the arrow shaped formation before the Eagle Unit sped off, heading for the demon army.

'Calyx, let's pincer these bastards!' Bifran yelled.

With a clear view of the battlefield, General Vernon's mind run rapidly as he made quick calculations.

They had been able to prevent the cannon fodder from reaching their walls; a good sign. What was left was to minimize their movement, thin them down and allow most of their forces to concentrate on the main demon army.

After all, their walls wouldn't be easily breached if somehow the cannon fodder got near it.

After some thought, he commanded. 'Liya, join the aerial units and help them. Wolf Unit, prepare to engage in melee!

Open the gates!

All soldiers who use earth, water and fire magic, build the Death Labyrinth array, now!'

Liya nodded in agreement and zoomed off in a flash of bright silver light. Her sword hummed, glowing blue with power as she let out a loud battle cry.

Behind the gates, an army of human soldiers, their faces grim, assembled solemnly, waiting for the gates to open.

On the walls, soldiers with the earth element began to rapidly cast spells in tandem, transforming the final stretch of land between the walls and the cannon fodder into an area of death.

Landmines, spikes, deep craters and traps of every kind where made to fit in the remaining thousand-meter space.

A huge trench, hundreds of meters deep, filled with blazing red flames, formed the divider; the first of many obstacles to hinder the assault of the cannon fodder.

Everyone was working together calmly, minimizing their expenditure of energy for maximum benefits.

The huge gates groaned as they swung open and the Wolf Unit stormed out.

'Men! Stand firm! These scum shall not overwhelm us!' roared the Wolf Unit commander, Gavin.

Silver halberds glinted in his hands as he brandished them menacingly.

'OU HA HA!'

The Wolf Unit let out their battle cry and split themselves into three divisions of one thousand men, awaiting the arrival of the demon spawn.

'We are losing, Jafar. Is this your so called great plan?' a female Arachnid demon expert sneered at a Snakeman.

'Silence, Iseult! I shall not be mocked by the likes of you,' growled Jafar.

He was the size of three men combined, his skin was red like blood and his four arms were clenched on his sides. At his back were strapped two swords, their blades black with dried blood.

Two more swords hung on the sides of his waist, making him a four-armed swordsman.

Apart from his incomparably wide and broad chest, his snake tail which started from his waist and ended in a twenty-meter-long coil was crimson in color, with mystical black patterns on it.

'If things continue like this, the lords won't be happy,' said a lizard man, four meters in length and a sickly shade of poisonous green in color.

He had elongated fangs and his claws were ten inches in length. A gigantic axe strapped to his back, double bladed and a bright silver in color.

'I know, Zohar.'

'Well fucking do something!'

'Fine! Mount the cannons and prepare to fire!' Jafar roared furiously.

The battle had quickly become intense.

The rhombus shaped formation of the Hawk Unit allowed those below to engage the demons below in close combat while possessing the height advantage.

The archers further up prevented the demon archers and harpies from interfering with the slaughter being carried out by the melee fighters below.

Heads and body parts flew and blood spurted, dyeing the world red.

Calyx alone was a huge menace to the demons near him, wreaking havoc on them like an unparalleled god of slaughter.

His sword rose and fell and with his agility and the sharpness of his weapon, one slash was all it took to behead a demon.

[Calamity Wind Art: Tornado]

A spinning and violent tornado of green energy formed, surging out towards places where the demon army was thickly congregated.

Calyx pulled out twelve razor edged circular discs and threw them into the tornado.

An immense suction force pulled all nearby demons within a forty-meter radius of the twelve-meter-tall green tornado of certain death.

Demons cried out in fear and horror as they broke ranks to escape the pull of the tornado which was a meatgrinder in all but name.

Any unfortunate demon who got pulled into the tornado was minced into small bits by the sharp air blades and the razor discs in the middle of the tornado.

As the number of demons drawn and minced into bits in the tornado climbed up rapidly, the tornado got a reddish tint amidst its green color.

This created an opening, one Calyx didn't hesitate to exploit.

At the other side of the army, Bifran's feet were firm and stable on the head of his eagle despite its swooping maneuvers and twists.

With unprecedented calmness, he kept firing his bow without pause as his men charged forward with him, piercing through the ranks of the demons.

A sneaky harpy managed to climb up onto the eagle and jumped up, making a grab for his bow but Bifran blasted its head into a pulp with his fist.

Liya too, was not to be outdone.

Like an immortal, she hovered in the air and casted horrendously powerful fire element Area of Effect spells which directly wiped out all demons within a mile of her!

Swinging her sword, sharp sword lights made quick work of demons outside the range of her spells.

On the other side of the battlefield, the first group of cannon fodder who had somehow survived the various traps rushed frenziedly to the waiting Wolf Unit.

Most of them were heavily injured, bleeding and limbless but like hell they cared. They were ready to die!

Gavin readied his axes and lowered into a crouch, licking his lips in anticipation.

'Wolf Unit, on my call! Prepare for battle!'
