Regrouping

Upon hearing my words, George stood frozen, his eyes filled with unresolved feelings and a trace of reluctance that only I could understand.

"Grace... even now, in front of everyone, you're enticing him. Have you no shame?" Fiona rushed to George's side, fiercely gripping his arm.

I gave her a disdainful glance, then said to George, "Abandoning your wife and child, one day you'll realize the truth! George, the divorce is final. Stop fantasizing! From now on, we go our separate ways. Let's not cross paths again!"

With those words, I turned away proudly. As I did, I caught a glimpse of George's eyes reddening.

I thanked Brooklyn and the others, then left with my mother and Monica in the new car I had just picked up. In the rearview mirror, I saw him standing forlornly, watching as my car drove away.
