Goodbye

My phone rang again, displaying the same unknown number. This time, I instinctively answered, thinking it might be work-related. But the moment I picked up, the call was disconnected.

I sat in the car, gripping my phone, watching the hurried pedestrians.

After a moment, the phone rang again, startling me. I grabbed it and answered.

His voice came through, emotionless, "Where are you?"

"On the road," I replied, mimicking his detached tone.

"Come to Jingyuan," he said and then hung up.

I almost threw the phone out of the window in frustration.

Despite my anger, I turned the car towards Jingyuan. Things had to be finished properly.

This time, I found Jingyuan easily. Upon arriving, I took a deep breath to calm myself before walking inside. But my heart raced again. I wanted to see him but feared it too. I knew this might be the end.

A young girl approached with a smile, "Ms. Miller, please follow me."
