Can Uncle Be Daddy?

Angel didn't move, just looked at me.

"Speak up, your dad wants to take you out for dinner. He was busy yesterday, so he wants to celebrate your birthday today. Do you want to go?" I explained George's intention to her.

"Is Mommy going?" Angel asked cautiously, looking at me.

This question really put me in a tough spot. To be honest, I didn't want to go. My tolerance was poor; seeing George made me agitated, disgusted, and irritable.

"Of course Mommy is going! Come, let Daddy give you a hug!" George squatted down, opening his arms to Angel. She didn't move, so I gently pushed her towards him.

Maybe my encouragement worked, as Angel then leaped into George's arms. He picked her up and kissed her cheek, making her smile instantly, her small arms wrapping around his neck, "Daddy!"

I was speechless. The saying "blood is thicker than water" is true; no matter what, he is her father.
