Itch

"I'm sorry!" I couldn't even meet his eyes when he looked at me like that, like he was utterly disappointed in me. "Whatever happened to me is my fault and not yours. So, please stop blaming yourself for my idiocy."

Caleb pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a frustrated groan. "Let's not debate further on whose fault it was. We can't go back in time and undo our mistakes." His eyes softened as he caressed my head. "So, let's focus on your healing journey. I will make sure you get the best treatment in the world."

I felt grateful towards him, but at the same time, my guilt knew no bounds. "I'm so sorry for being a burden on you, Caleb. I'm sorry for being a hindrance to you instead of being someone who could relieve some burden off your shoulders."

"Don't say that." He gently caressed my lips and leaned in to kiss me. "You're anything but a burden. So, don't you dare speak so lowly about yourself."
