Going Into The Mountain Again (Part 2)

He pressed his ear against the door, listening for any noises outside.

After a long period of silence, he carefully latched the door.

In the empty corner of the main room, on the bamboo mat spread out by the wall, Liang Hongyu lay with her hands behind her head, her eyes opening softly.

Listening to the cautious footsteps moving back to the bed inside and the controlled rustling as he lay down, Liang Hongyu couldn't help but smile inwardly.

It was hard to notice, but he was quite guarded.

It seemed that when she wasn't around, he wouldn't suffer too much.

The rural tile house was warm in winter and cool in summer.

Liang Hongyu had a restful sleep and woke up early the next day.

She hadn't slept this well in a long time during the apocalypse, and she felt energetic and refreshed when she got up.

She dressed and started to braid her hair.

Her hair was long, and she was out of practice, so it took several tries to get it right before she stepped out of the room.

It was still early in the morning, and the sky was just beginning to lighten, wrapped in a thin layer of mist.

The countryside air was fresh, and the chirping of birds on the treetops was clear and constant.

After washing her face, Liang Hongyu stretched her body in the backyard while gazing into the distance and enjoying the cool morning breeze.

Then, she walked briskly towards the chicken coop.

Last night, while digesting food in the backyard, she noticed a hen sitting in the nest, seemingly ready to lay an egg.

Liang Hongyu opened the fence gate and walked in, and the two hens pecking around on the ground rushed over.

They clucked at her feet, following her closely, waiting for their morning feed.

The chickens didn't need to be fed too early, especially with Huo Tianzhou taking care of them, so Liang Hongyu ignored them and picked up the egg from the nest and weighed it in her hand.

Feeling satisfied, she walked out, closed the coop gate, and left the chickens, their main source of food security, safely inside the fence.

Liang Hongyu went to the kitchen, added water to the pot for boiling medicine, and put the egg in.

She squatted in front of the pot to light the fire, then filled a bamboo tube with water.

She turned her head to the woodshed next door, picked out the necessary tools, inspected them, and put them into her backpack.

She took the slightly rusty small knife she had just cleaned and some bamboo sticks to carve a few small arrows.

As she sat in the yard and prepared to work, she heard sounds coming from the main room.

Before long, Huo Tianzhou came out.

Huo Tianzhou had stayed up late last night, so his eyes were still a little bit bleary as he walked to the backyard.

Seeing a figure sitting in his usual spot for weaving bamboo strips, he blinked a few times before fully waking up.
