Black Bear (Part 2)

It turned around and locked eyes with her.

Irritated by the interruption, the bear swiftly climbed down and charged at her with ferocious speed.

Liang Hongyu was less than ten meters away from the bear.

As she retreated, she grabbed the slingshot hanging from her waist and, with her other hand, she retrieved a stone she had picked up on her way into the mountains.

She had found the slingshot in the woodshed, it was covered in dust.

Although it hadn't been used in a long time, it was still functional when she tested it that morning.

She placed the stone in the slingshot, pulled it back fully, and aimed for the bear's eye.

However, she missed it

Liang Hongyu clicked her tongue in annoyance.

It's just a few days without practice, and her skills have declined.

With a roar and a rush of wind, the bear was nearly upon her.

She sidestepped and rolled twice on the ground, narrowly avoiding the bear's powerful swipe.

The black bear, due to its charging momentum, crashed into a nearby tree trunk.

The impact was so strong that the massive tree roots shook.

As the bear got up, its eyes turned blood-red with rage, and it roared as it charged again.

Liang Hongyu steadied herself after standing up and quickly loaded one of the bamboo spikes she had sharpened that morning onto her slingshot.

She aimed at the raging bear and released the spike with precision.

Whoosh—

The spike hit the target dead center.

With enough force behind the shot, the bamboo spike pierced the bear's eye, causing blood to gush out.

The bear roared in pain, breathing heavily and collapsing to the ground.

The fallen leaves were scattered by its thrashing.

Liang Hongyu pulled out another bamboo spike and reloaded her slingshot, maintaining her aim.

Unlike wild boars, which would attack mindlessly when enraged, the black bear realized it couldn't win against this invader.

It wisely retreated, dragging its injured eye, and quickly disappeared from Liang Hongyu's sight.

Only then did Liang Hongyu lower her slingshot and brush off the dried grass and leaves that had stuck to her clothes when she rolled on the ground.

Noticing the blood the bear had left behind, she stepped out and covered it with dirt to prevent other wild animals from being attracted by it.

Bees were still buzzing around the tree hole.

Liang Hongyu gathered some wood chips and dry grass, forming a bundle, and fixed it together.

She started a fire and, using a stick, carried the burning bundle to the entrance of the hole.

After the bees were smoked out and only a few scattered ones remained, Liang Hongyu climbed up.

Many of the bee larvae had been eaten by the black bear and fallen outside the hole entrance.

The other side of the honeycomb was also damaged.

She took out the still intact honeycomb and wrapped it in her outer garment.

Liang Hongyu descended the mountain and returned home.

The front door was locked from the outside, and Huo Tianzhou was nowhere to be seen.
