Chapter 146 - Shadow Monarch's Dungeon 04.

[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]

Third Person POV

Romania.

...

...

The entire area exploded with lightning, and chaos took over as the storm clouds created by Snape began to dissipate.

All the armors started appearing amidst the lightning, affected by the element, paralyzed and unable to move. Morou emerged from the smoke as well, searching for Snape, but the young wizard was no longer in front of him. His gaze shifted behind him, seeing all the mages being slain by Snape's sword, eliminating them one by one. Meanwhile, all the reanimated armors began collapsing to the ground, lifeless at this point.

"I've dealt with the most annoying ones…" Finally, having handled the mages, Snape observed the results of his attack with satisfaction as he turned back to Morou.

His chest was still bleeding; even with the basilisk skin armor, it had been easily damaged by Morou's blade attacks. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a few vials he kept in a dimensional space. Without the system active, he had to rely on alternatives he had already prepared. He began taking out vials and drinking potions one by one, trying to recover from a distance.

"I really underestimated you, forgetting even how strong I was. But that doesn't matter anymore, does it, my old self? Let's finish this once and for all." Snape said as he finished drinking the potions. Besides healing his wounds, they increased his strength and speed. He had to admit: his old self was more powerful than he currently was.

After the last empty vial fell to the ground, Snape crushed it under his foot and disappeared, using his speed. He began advancing through the area. The armors tried to move, but the electricity was still paralyzing them. This was a perfect opportunity for Snape, who started cutting through them as he passed, eliminating all the archers and half the sword-wielding armors with almost no resistance.

He finally stopped and looked at Morou, advancing towards him. His sword and Morou's daggers collided once again, generating a shockwave that echoed through the hall. But now Snape didn't have to deal with mages or arrows coming his way.

"Do you really intend to challenge the former Guardian that you once were, Snape?" Morou taunted, moving quickly.

Snape was beyond his limits, using the potions to enhance his physical condition beyond what the system had already amplified. Even so, he was still slower and weaker than Morou, losing ground quickly.

However, Snape had something Morou didn't: the magic of this world. He moved his wand, teleporting and casting long-range spells as attacks. When Morou tried to strike him, Snape vanished, reappearing at a distance and launching lightning in his direction. Morou dodged, running between the pillars at high speed, even climbing walls to avoid the attacks. He closed in on Snape, who only smiled and disappeared again, reappearing in his original position.

The remaining armors, confused, couldn't predict Snape's movements as he teleported around the battlefield. He finally moved against them, eliminating them one by one until none remained. At last, the only remaining opponent was Morou, who appeared swiftly before him.

"Very clever. You use those interesting tricks well," Morou said as he struck with his daggers, pushing Snape back. He maintained a firm posture.

Snape disappeared again, reappearing a few meters ahead, watching Morou carefully as he took a few steps around him, alert and trying to anticipate any new movement.

"You cannot defeat the Monarchs, Morou, and you know it. That's why I will surpass them myself… as Severus Snape of this world." Snape declared confidently, staring at Morou with a determined look.

In the next moment, both charged at each other, reigniting a battle throughout the area, far more intense now that it was just the two of them. Magic and blades clashed with ferocity.

As the battle raged on, Morou used his physical abilities to move while Snape relied on his teleportation. They reappeared at different points, clashing and destroying the surroundings. The walls bore the marks of their blades, and the pillars in the audience hall began to crumble, though neither of them ever reached the throne.

Morou had experience, just like Snape, but unlike the latter, Morou possessed muscle memory in his enhanced body, allowing him to react even to magical attacks such as teleportation and point-blank spells that Snape fired at him. He managed to hold his ground against all of it so far, while trying to strike Snape, who disappeared before his attacks could reach him.

Snape appeared above the room, pointing his wand at Morou below, who prepared to dodge the attack, but this time Snape cast a smoke cloud again, enveloping Morou within it.

"This again?" Morou muttered, but it was already too late.

Electricity began coursing through the entire area, leaving no room to escape. In the next moment, another electrical explosion erupted. Morou was struck head-on, reappearing unsteady and injured, with no time to react, as Snape was already before him, dancing with his blade. Morou had to act quickly but struggled due to his body being electrocuted for the second time.

"I can't let you claim this power! You'll be worse than the Monarchs. You might even enslave and control them. You have no idea of the power of the Shadow Monarch!" Morou said firmly.

"I would accept this power to fight the other Monarchs, but I take no pride in it... Once it's all over, I'll self-destruct. There's no reason for me to keep this in the universe," Snape replied coldly.

"Those are just words. What guarantees you won't change in the future?" Morou questioned, trying to probe Snape's intentions.

"I certainly understand your fears. After all, I used to be you, and I would also be trying to kill someone like Snape right now. But understand this: no matter how harsh my actions are now, I still have my principles." He paused, exchanging more blows with their blades.

"I will stop the Monarchs, restore the Guardians' order, and bring balance to the universe. And when this power is no longer needed, I'll destroy myself to ensure balance is fully restored. This way, a new generation of Guardians can continue the legacy." Snape declared with conviction, as more and more strikes were exchanged between them.

Morou began to struggle. He could barely react, deflecting Snape's attacks with a body now severely damaged. Finally, Snape created an opening and pointed his wand at Morou, violently hurling him against the wall on the other side of the room, which exploded on impact.

Morou quickly rose from the rubble, but Snape reappeared in front of him. With a precise strike, Snape hit one of the daggers and swung his sword, disarming Morou and sending the white dagger flying across the room.

Snape advanced and kicked him again, causing Morou to roll across the floor, away from the weapon. Before Morou could react, Snape disappeared and reappeared above him, launching another attack with his sword. Morou raised his only remaining dagger to block, but the ground gave way under the force of Snape's blow.

Morou said nothing. He seemed more solemn under the pressure, struggling to maintain balance as he faced Snape, while Snape remained focused. Morou tried to push him away, but Snape kept disappearing and reappearing beside him, always one step ahead. The battle raged on.

At last, Morou began to lose ground. The enhanced body he had so relied upon was now too damaged after the spells had managed to hit him. When Snape prepared for the final blow, he raised his hand and invoked the power of the Monarch's Touch. Using this ability, Snape completely paralyzed Morou, leaving him unable to react.

"You cannot stop me," Snape said coldly, as Morou remained motionless, trapped by the telekinesis Snape maintained with his raised hand—the same ability he had used earlier to retrieve his wand in the heat of battle.

As Morou watched, paralyzed, Snape advanced and plunged his blade into his heart, delivering a fatal wound. Morou spat blood, looking at Snape and the blade. Then, with difficulty, he spoke. "You did it."

Snape said nothing. He simply maintained his firm stance, even as Morou's last red dagger fell to the ground.

"I hope you don't change, Severus Snape. I hope you truly restore order, sincerely," Morou said, offering a solemn smile at the end.

"I will do it. I will hold on to my principles... until the end," Snape replied with determination.

As he spoke, Morou's body began to turn to dust, disappearing as if it had all been an illusion. Even the dagger on the floor, along with the other white dagger, began to vanish, transforming into particles that floated through the air.

Snape watched, not only observing Morou but also the daggers. He had a certain feeling about them and had hoped they might remain with him. But, seeing them disappear, he knew that wouldn't be the case. His gaze then shifted to the remaining time displayed for his mission in the dungeon.

A system message appeared in front of him, reinstating the interface.

[Congratulations! You have cleared the Dark Lord's Dungeon with maximum score. Calculating reward... You will receive the power of the Shadow Monarch.]

"It seems I'm finally going to receive..." Snape murmured to himself. "The power that will give me the chance to fight the other Monarchs."

As he reflected, more system messages began to appear:

[Main ability unlocked: Necromancy. Your attributes are increasing, and you are receiving the power of one who governs death. The true Dark Lord, the King of the Dead, also known as the Shadow Monarch.]

As the message appeared, all the armors in the room began transforming into black smoke, reshaping themselves into a dense, obscure substance. Suddenly, the shadow-like entity surged toward Snape. He barely had time to react before the darkness engulfed him.

"This..." His teeth clenched, and he murmured in surprise.

Snape felt his entire body seem to collapse as he absorbed the energy.

[Receiving power... Estimated time: 20 days.] the system announced.

A countdown began. Snape stared at it, stunned. Twenty days for the full force to be absorbed into his body. Despite this, he accepted his fate. He walked to the empty throne at the center of the hall, sat down, and allowed the darkness to continue consuming him. His eyes began to glow with a bluish hue, reflecting the growing power.

Outside, in front of the portrait within Dracula's castle, a horde of vampires waited for any sign of Snape. They watched the changes in the portrait, sensing the dark energy growing and erupting more powerfully than before. Dracula, along with a crowd of other high vampires, observed in silence, astonished and confused by what was happening inside.

"What is happening...?" one of them murmured.

"Snape..." In a corner, Rosaria murmured, staring intently at the portrait, wondering what was taking place.

No one knew exactly what was happening. And within the portrait, seated on the throne, Snape, now at the center of it all, continued to absorb the darkness. At last, he was becoming the Shadow Monarch.
