Chapter 37: Martial arts

Understanding that he had caught wind of something intriguing, he disabled the detective mode, switched out of first-person view, and guided Batman to leave the roof of the bank.

He wasn't curious about his friend's activities, but he definitely has a unique taste. After patrolling all night, he was ready to log off and rest. As he was about to exit the game, special effects appeared on the screen. Looking at the notification, it seemed to be a rank-up screen for his system.

The hero party function is now available, enabling players to pick a backup hero for battles and switch between heroes with a one-minute cooldown.

This new addition allows him to assemble a party with two heroes, diversifying his gameplay. In case one hero is defeated, the other can step in, providing him with a backup plan. It appears that there are also more party slots to be unlocked later.

Some Batman games have a combat system where players control two characters at once, each with their own combo skills.

There's a high likelihood of upgrading this party feature.

Once the system talked about the party, a new alert came up, informing him that he could select one of the available heroes after the upgrade and randomly gain a skill from the chosen hero.

The game is becoming increasingly mysterious. Initially, he was transported to another world using a truck.

Then he discovered his cheating ability to summon superheroes and command them in a video game.

Additionally, he gained the power to summon superhero gear that is delivered to his doorstep.

Now it appears that I can now gain superhero powers directly from the system.

The system provided an explanation, stating it can adjust the player's body for various skills, but did not go into detail about the skills and only showed the available heroes he could pick from.

His heroes are mostly not good, except for Batman and Captain America.

The hero skill description is vague since the system doesn't clarify what a hero skill is.

For instance, consider Captain America. He might get lucky and acquire the "Super Soldier Serum Enhancement" skill, but he's not certain if he'll also get the "shield-throwing skill."

Batman's skill set is a problem because he's just a regular person, but he knows so many skills that it's hard to keep track of them all.

After much deliberation, he finally decided to draw skills from Captain America.

Thinking about the skills Captain America not only has his super-solid suerum but also fighting and auxiliary skills.

Draw!

Choosing Captain America caused a small cartoon-style metal box to drop to the ground with a bang. A brilliant golden light burst out from the box, and the box lid opened on the screen.

[Acquired the skill 'Advanced Fighting Technique (Captain America Edition)]

[Explanation: Captain America is skilled in different fighting styles like boxing, jujitsu, aikido, and judo.] His fighting skills are top-notch, and he combines them in his own style.

His eyes lit up.

Captain America is a Marvel hero known for his skills in close combat. Few can match him in hand-to-hand fighting, especially those without superpowers.

Captain America's combat abilities will serve as a strong base. Even as he gains access to more advanced gear and abilities, his fighting skills will still be valuable.

After the skill screen faded, another screen showed an interface similar to a MMO character panel with equipment slots popping up.

After examining the open slots, he realized he could equip himself with Hawkeye's wrist guards and Green Arrow's eye mask.

There is also an ability section on the interface with 7 available slots for skills. A limit he noticed is that each slot was associated with an ability type.

Also, there are other categories like strength, speed, defense, spirit, energy, magic, and an "other/misc" category at the end. You can equip one skill in each skill slot, and you can remove the equipped skill whenever you want.

If he has Captain America's fighting skills and later gains Batman's fighting skills, he must remove Captain America's skills before using Batman's version of the skill.

As he gains more abilities later on, he can equip himself with different hero powers and become well-rounded with no weaknesses.

Just thinking about it made him feel excited.

Naturally, all the skills, gear, and powers are meant for self-defense. They serve as a crucial backup to protect his life in risky situations.

Even if he acquires great power, he doesn't plan to create chaos himself. He prefers to stay behind the screen, typing on his keyboard, where he can earn money without any risk, which he finds very appealing.

He will only go out to be a hero in person if he has powerful skills, such as Superman's body or the Flash's speed force.

In other words, he wants to be overpowered before exposing himself. He immediately equipped the skill and went to an open area in his apartment to test the skill.

Once he took his fighting stance, a flood of techniques and knowledge filled his mind. He then practiced some basic punches and kicks. In just seconds, his movements changed from funny to expert level; he even attempted a spinning kick when he suddenly sensed something.
