Samba Was Tested

17 Chapter 17: Samba Was Tested

Jude visited Samba in her hostel and found her watching a movie on her phone.

"Hello, Samba."

"Hi," she replied.

"How are you doing?"

"I'm doing great, thanks for the gift you sent through your friend the other day."

"You don't have to thank me. By the way, he's not just my friend; he's my driver."

"Anyway, what would you like to eat?"

"I'll appreciate anything."

"Alright, wait a minute. Let me get you some Jollof rice."

She went to the kitchen and returned with two plates of Jollof rice. She placed them on the dining table, and Jude joined her.

As they were eating, Jude decided to express his feelings.

"Samba, look straight into my eyes." She did as he asked, and Jude confessed his growing affection for her.

"I want to tell you something. I would like us to start dating. I really love you, Samba. Find a place in your heart for me, and I'll make sure you have everything you want in this world."

Samba, though grateful, politely declined. She explained that she already had a love interest and was committed to remaining faithful.

"That doesn't matter, Samba. If you find a place for me in your heart, I promise I won't let you down. I have the money."

"I know you're rich, but I don't like double dating, and I can't break the heart of my lover because we've promised each other not to cheat."

Jude tried to convince Samba, but she remained firm in her decision.

Jude returned to Johnson, who was pleased to hear about Samba's loyalty. Johnson felt reassured that Samba was a genuine partner.

---

Samba informed Johnson about Jude's visit and his advances. Johnson appreciated her honesty and reaffirmed his commitment to their relationship.

Johnson then asked Samba if there was anything she desired, anticipating a reasonable request.

Samba, testing Johnson's sincerity, requested 200,000 Naira, hoping he couldn't afford it.

To her surprise, Johnson fulfilled her request, earning her admiration and trust.

One day, Johnson visited Samba's class and learned from her classmate Joke that she was absent due to illness. Concerned, Johnson reached out to Samba, who explained her difficulty in contacting him.

Johnson promptly visited her hostel, found her resting on a sofa, and took her to the hospital.

The doctor conducted tests and provided medication, which Johnson promptly collected from the pharmacy.

Samba received treatment for two days before recovering and being discharged.

A few months later, Johnson graduated and traveled to Abuja. Despite the distance, they promised to remain faithful to each other.

---

Five years later, Samba graduated with honors and moved to Abuja to live with Johnson, who had previously revealed his affluent background.

Upon arrival, she found Johnson with his friend Jude at home. They welcomed her warmly. After resting, Jude spoke to her.

"Samba, I'm sorry to tell you this, but we can't keep it a secret any longer. Please don't be angry…"

"What is it now?" she asked.

"Someone is pregnant by Johnson," he said softly.

"What! Johnson, how could you do this to me? I tried my best to remain faithful because of you and the promises we made, and this is how you repay me?"

Johnson apologized, attributing the situation to a mistake.

"What kind of mistake? Why would you make such a mistake when you know how much I love you?"

Samba wept.

Jude consoled her, suggesting that God would lead her to true love.

At this point, Johnson left the room.

Jude continued to comfort Samba as she cried.

After Jude's reassurances, Johnson reentered the room, and together with Jude, they revealed their ruse, shouting, "April Fools!"

"What kind of prank is this? I don't like it. Why can't you be serious for once?"

"Sorry, we just wanted to see your reaction."

"Don't play such jokes with me again. I don't like them."

"Samba, we're really sorry for the joke. Now that I know you truly love me, I have a special gift for you."

"Okay, what is it? I'm curious."

Johnson retrieved a small package from behind his bed and handed it to Samba.

Samba opened the package and found a Bible inside. She was pleased and discovered a car key hidden within it.

Overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement, Samba realized the depth of their bond, built on trust, loyalty, and commitment.

Johnson and Samba planned their marriage ceremony, and a few months later, their dream came true as they lived together happily.

---

Johnson ran a large company, and Samba became the second-in-command. Johnson was the only son of his father, who owned many businesses and had handed one over to him.

One day, Johnson and Samba were enjoying a quiet evening watching a movie when their close friend Ike visited.

Ike, notorious for borrowing large sums of money for his business ventures and often struggling to repay them, requested a loan of two million Naira. He claimed it would help develop his business and that he would return the money once profits were made.

"Well, the amount is substantial, and I don't have it available right now, but if you can wait a few days, we'll get back to you," said Johnson.

Ike agreed and spent some time with them before leaving. Johnson saw him off.

Johnson returned home and discussed Ike's request with Samba.

"Honey, I have the amount Ike asked for, but I thought I should discuss it with you before giving it to him."

Sensing Johnson's inclination to help Ike, Samba advised against it, citing the current economic climate and the high likelihood that Ike might not return the money.
