Ch. 41 - The Great Pretender pretends!

Leo's ears twitched slightly after hearing footsteps from his front.

'They're finally here. Took them long enough.' Leo mentally sighed and opened his eyes, meeting the eyes of a man with huge stature, tribal tattoos can be seen marked all around his body, signifying something that Leo doesn't know.

"He's still asleep. Grab them both and leave here." Chief Tui, noticing that Leo wasn't moving and thought that he was sleeping, whispered to warrior Monti by his side, prioritizing the safety of his people first. He doesn't know what happened but he's sure that the sleeping person in front of him is the reason why two of his warriors are passed out on the ground.

"But Chief, what about you?" Warrior Monti expressed his worry.

"I'll be fine, Monti. I'm stronger than you think." Chief Tui assured him while brandishing his huge hammer.

Looking at the huge hammer of the chief of Motunui, Monti was rest assured and carried both the fallen warriors on his shoulders like sacks before running away in a hurried manner, hoping he would be able to deliver the fallen warriors to the village and go back to assist Chief Tui just in case.

"You're awake." Chief Tui pointed his stone hammer at the 'sleeping' Leo.

"You know? Well, it's not like I'm trying to hide it." Leo's eyes then opened, directly staring at Chief Tui, muttering the last sentence to himself. If he wanted, he could've truly faked his sleep without the chief discovering that he's awake, however if he did that, he would lose this chance of encounter and might even possibly cause a mistrust between both parties.

"I know when someone is truly sleeping and who is not." Chief Tui explained, just as Leo was about to reply, Chief Tui stopped him.

"Before you speak, I need to ask you something, that I hope you can answer."

".....Sure." Curious at what the Chief is going to ask him, Leo got up from the ground and stretched his limbs.

"Are you....from beyond the reef?"

"Beyond the reef?" Leo raised his eyebrows, before looking at his behind, thankfully they're somewhat up in a tall mountain, so Leo was able to see the large body of the sea and saw the reef that the chief was referring to.

'Is it bad if I say I'm from beyond it?' Leo pondered to himself and decided to gamble.

".....Yeah, what of it?"

"Amazing....how can you venture beyond the reef? Didn't you encounter the devils of the sea? The monsters and beasts? How about the strong waves? How did you manage to get past it?" Chief Tui suddenly blasted several questions to Leo, further confusing him.

'Devils of the sea? Is he talking to some huge monsters in the sea? Is this world One Piece?' So far, this is the only plausible idea that Leo could think of.

"You....just need a good boat, I guess? I'm sorry my memory is quite jogged, I can hardly remember anything but finding myself stranded on this island." Leo grabbed the back of his head and apologized.

"I see." Chief Tui then stopped talking, staring at Leo's eyes as if trying to see through him, albeit impossible as Leo is a master of deception and lying, as it is considered as part of his entire career as a Con-Man.

"I don't you, I don't trust you either, but I'm not a bad person to leave you out here alone, so I'm giving you a chance, I'm going to place my trust in you and bring you to Motunui." Chief Tui seriously looked at Leo's face, as if prompting him how important the trust he was placing on him.

"Okayyy...." Although Leo was weirded out at how easily the chief in front of him trusts someone he just met but who is Leo to complain? The opportunity is already presented in front of him, he might as well take it lest it disappears.

"Come with me and stick close. I don't want you wandering too far from this place." Chief Tui rested the shaft of his stone hammer on his shoulder.

Unbeknownst to Leo and Chief Tui, a certain 'princess' was listening in to their conversation.

"He came from beyond the reef." Moana muttered to herself in amazement and disbelief before shifting her head to the sea, past the reef with a longing look on her face.

'If he can venture past the reef, why can't I?' She said in her mind, although it's been a few years since she last tried to go to the sea after getting berated by her father, that doesn't mean she has completely forgotten about her dream, a dream that her Gramma has bestowed upon her.

'I need to find him and ask him to help me sail past the reefs!' With this in mind, Moana became more determined in sailing past the reef.

'Fuck! This is the world of Moana!'

***

On the way back to the village of Motunui, Chief Tui was already thinking of several reasons and explanations on why he brought an outsider to the village.

'Sina would definitely scold me for this. But she'll understand, leaving him out on the island is more dangerous than letting him in the village where we can keep watch on him.'

"So, what is your village like? You're the chief, right?" Noticing the awkward silent atmosphere, Leo wanted to break it by initiating a conversation.

"Our village.....how do I say this. We're rich in culture? We specialize in making clothes and flower garments like this!" Chief Tui surprisingly got excited as he showed off the flowers and clothes that he is currently wearing.

"That's awesome." Leo smiled as Chief Tui removed one of his garments for Leo to take.

"Here, you can have this. It would at least not cause too much panic to my people if they see you wearing the same thing as them." Chief Tui explained and even placed the flower necklace on Leo by himself, as if he's not taking a no as an answer.

"Okayyy...." Leo could only let the man put the garment on him and fix it himself after.

"There, that should do. Now, listen to me closely. Whatever happens, just leave everything to me, don't talk, don't tell anyone about yourself and just blend in, much better if you try to show appreciation to oue culture, it would help." Chief Tui then patted his shoulders and resumed his walking.

"I see." While looking down at the flower garments on his neck, his ears suddenly picked up a sound of a branch getting stepped on behind him.

Looking back, Leo squinted his eyes and used his sharp vision to detect where the sound could have came from.

'Someone is either following us or it's just an animal that accidentally stepped on a branch.' Leo made two guesses in his mind, though the former was soon confirmed after.

"Eeeepp!"

'Yep, someone's following us.'

***

'T-That was close. Thankfully, I'm quite far from them, so they didn't hear me.' Moana was breathing heavily as she wiped off the sweat that has accumulated on her forehead, she's currently hiding behind a tree after accidentally stepping on a branch, not only breaking it and making a sound, but the worst part is that she's barefoot, so she got herself wounded on her feet.

'Mom won't like me getting injured like this.' Moana's face scrunched up as she lays down on the ground and grabbed a leaf from her surroundings, trying to at least patch her bleeding sole.

"That won't do. Your wound might get infected." Suddenly, she hears a male voice from beside her.

"Eh?"

"Hm?"

***

After asking Chief Tui to leave for a while to take a piss, Leo quickly used his nimble feet and fast speed to quietly leave the place and arrive at the site where he last heard the sound.

Seeing the main character of the Moana movie, tending to her wounded feet, he quickly spoke.

"That won't do. Your wound might get infected." He said, gathering the attention of the tribe chief's daughter and soon to be the chief of Motunui.

Suddenly, Moana shifted her head to Leo and had a shocked expression on her face.

"Eh?"

"Hm?"
