Ch. 42 - The Great Pretender is a threat!

"W-What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be with my fa- I mean, with the chief." Moana panicked and pointed her finger at Leo while stuttering.

"I am, and how did you know that? Are you perhaps....stalking me?" Leo then covered his chest while eyeing Moana with suspicion on his eyes.

"S-stalking? Who do you think I am, you....elegant brute!" Moana angrily pouted and 'insulted' him.

"Elegant? That's....not an insult." Leo raised an eyebrow and pointed out.

"Your clothes. They gave it away, it looks....elegant." As a village that specializes in making clothes and garments, Moana could tell if a certain clothing is elegant and intricately made.

"Really?" Leo asked with a raised eyebrow while looking down at his clothing. He's currently wearing a traditional Kung Fu robe with golden outlines and an eastern dragon wrapped around his waist as its design, truly giving it an elegant look.

"Yeah."

*Rustle!*

"Oh no." Moana's eyes widened and she muttered with horror plastered across her face.

"What's going o-? Moana?" Suddenly between the heavy bush of leaves, Chief Tui came out with a look of confusion on his face before being replaced with a stunned expression upon seeing his daughter, Moana.

"Hey....Dad." Mona awkwardly waved her hand at her father, whose face is slowly contorting into anger especially after seeing the wound on her feet.

"What are you doing here and what happened to your feet?" Chief Tui asked two questions while crossing his arms.

"I-uh....was just strolling around? You know, appreciating the uhmm beauty of our island?"

"Moana. You'll come with us on your way back." Chief Tui said while swinging the hammer back to his shoulder.

"I-uhhhh." Moana made an awkward smile as she hesitated to continue her words.

"What?"

"I can't walk." Moana smiled while wiggling the toes of her wounded feet, making Chief Tui sigh in defeat before approaching Moana.

"I can carry her. If you allow me." Leo interrupted and said, while looking at Moana upon the last sentence.

"....Can you?" Chief Tui expresses his doubt

"I'm stronger than you think." Leo smiled and flexed his muscles.

"If you can then, you may." Getting Moana's approval, Leo quickly approached Moana and much to their shock, Leo easily lifted Moana in a princess carry as if she was air.

"W-woah." Moana yelped in surprise and instinctively grabbed Leo's neck.

"It's not that scary, you know." Leo teased.

"Ehem! I'm not.....scared. I was just....surprised." Moana cleared her throat and made an excuse.

"Anyways, what are you waiting for? Let's go! Hurry up!"

Leo simply chuckled at her antics while Chief Tui shook his head in disappointment for seeing her daughter being like this.

This is the first time he saw her like this and he was a bit weirded out.

Could her daughter have a secret illness in the head that makes her become a stuttering mess when it comes to certain people.

"Let's go and stick close to me. No more breaks." Chief Tui brandished his hammer again before he started walking.

Meanwhile, Leo followed Chief Tui with Moana in his arms.

***

After a few minutes of continuous walking, they have finally arrived at the edge of the village, where Leo can see so many villagers that share the same clothing style as Chief Tui and Moana.

"Moana!" Sina, Moana's mother was running towards them at full speed before pushing Leo and lifting Moana as if she had some kind of herculean strength.

'Holy shit.' Leo's eyes widened in surprise and unconsciously let go of Moana, letting her be embraced and carried by her mother.

"Why did you leave all by yourself, Moana! We have an intruder, what if he hurts you?" Sina expressed her concerns, she normally wouldn't be like this if it wasn't for the 'intruder' that she heard from Monti.

"Uhm, Mom."

"Hold off right there, young woman. I'm not done talking. What I'm saying is-."

"Yes, mom I know! But the 'intruder' that you're talking about is just right in front of you." Moana embarrassingly covered her face as Sina became stunned and shifted her eyes towards Leo.

"H-Hello there, ehem. I'm sorry, I was just...worried, it's...normal for a mother to be worried about her daughter right?" Like mother-like daughter, Sina awkwardly tried to diffuse the situation, trying to clear her tainted name.

"I understand. There's no need for you to explain." Leo placed his hand in front of her and stopped her as he nodded his head to show his understanding.

"Hehe~." Sina gave Leo one last warm smile before shifting it to her husband, Tui but this time, with a glare instead of a smile.

"We're having a talk later." Sina muttered which was loud enough for Moana, Leo and Chief Tui to hear.

'Poor guy.' Leo prayed in his mind

'Poor dad.' Moana prayed in her heart.

'I'm dead.' Chief Tui gulped his saliva out of nervousness, already imagining what would happen to his corpse after the 'talk'.

***

"Dad left you to me. So I'll be your guide in our village!" With her hands behind her back, Moana tip-toed while brushing her hair behind her ear.

"Okay.....is there any place I can stay in?" Leo asked, choosing to ignore the odd gesture of Moana, not even thinking that Moana might perhaps have developed some feelings towards him, after all, from what he knows, Moana at the time is at a young age.

'Probably around 15 or 16, the movie didn't state how old she is during the movie.'

"Where you're staying? Uhmm....Oh! I know one!" Moana then grabbed Leo's hand before he could react before dragging him.

"It's this way!"

'Am I seriously being dragged by a child a few years younger than me?'

***

After arriving almost near the border of the village, Moana finally showed him the house which is more like a hut. It was quite old looking as it can be determined by the old wood that looks like it would give in any day.

"It's quite an old hut but it'll suit you fine. It is still sturdy!" As if sensing Leo's worries, Moana confidently assures him while knocking on the body of the wooden hut.

*Creak!*

*Thud!*

Only for the door of the wooden hut's door to suddenly creak and fall on the ground.

"Except for the door, hehe." Moana awkwardly smiled and corrected her 'mistake'.

".....This is good enough, thank you." Leo mentally shook his head and bowed his head out of gratitude before entering the dilapidated hut.

"O-Oh. Just call me if you need anything then. You might not know yet but I'm actually the Chief's daughter and soon to be the chief, so I'm quite capable." Moana bragged and flexed her nonexistent muscles.

'She's quite annoying.'

"I see. Then I have to thank you in advance, by the way, you said this is an old hut. What do you mean by that? Is someone still living here?" Leo shifted the topic and asked a question that has been plaguing him since earlier.

"Oh, right. I forgot to tell you, this used to be the hut of an elderly woman that died just a few months ago, she didn't have any relatives to inherit this hut, so it was left abandoned until someone would need it." Moana touched the wooden hut and slowly caressed it while in the middle of explaining.

"And that someone is me, thanks for the information." Although Leo looks calm outside, on the inside he was having a slight panic.

'Calm down Leo, this is the Disney world, surely there are no ghosts here right? I don't remember any ghosts in the movie, so I'm safe.'

***

After finally 'kicking' out Moana, Leo finally had a space to breathe. So he sat on the wooden ground and as he laid down, he could hear and feel the wood creaking, showing just how old it is by now.

'I could finally have my time alone.' Leo sighed in relief as he rested both of his hands on the back of his head.

'Now, I just need Moana's grandmother to die of old age and that's when I know that the movie will start.'

'But that's for me to think about in the future. For now, I need my beauty rest.' With that, Leo finally closed his eyes and slept like a log throughout the entire day, not even caring that the old hut doesn't have any doors.

***

"Are you out of your mind! We don't know him and you just let him in our village!? What if he's a danger? A monster of the sea that disguises as a human?" Inside a large home, Chief Tui was being scolded by none other than his wife.

"I don't want to leave him out there, who knows what might happen to him outside, I'm not a bad person, Sina. And besides, if he's truly a threat, it would be better for him to stay in our village, at least that way we can watch over him and make sure he won't do anything that will harm us and Motunui." Chief Tui tried to explain.

"If he did something, especially to Moana, he's off our island!" Sina threatened.

"He might not actually be a threat, mom, dad." Suddenly, Moana arrived and stated.

"What do you mean by that, Moana?"

"I had a small interaction with him earlier and he doesn't look that bad."

"Moana, appearance can sometimes be deceiving. Look at your father!" Sina shook her head at her daughter's naivety while using her husband as an example.

"Wait what? What do you mean by that?"

"I mean what I meant, Tui."
