A Debutante ball

Sebastian's words had a hidden meaning and only he understood it. Mr Nolan was left to ponder on the king's words. "A ball?" Mr Nolan asked himself surprised a ball was coming up though it had been a long time since a ball was held. "A debutante ball or a masquerade ball?" He asked himself once again with a sign of mirth evident in his voice. He was feeling a smidgen excited because he knew his children would be excited about a ball coming up. The debutante ball was an opportunity for the peasants to enjoy a bit of the extravagant life the nobles and the royals had and also to find a potential partner and nonetheless, make their first formal appearance in society. The masquerade ball wasn't so different it was also a social gathering with the aim to bring people together but for this event, it was only attended on invite. In Denver, they took part in different kinds of balls, from the Debutante ball to the ball of hallow, the masquerade ball and also balls to celebrate special events or happenings in the palace.

Mr Nolan arrived at his home and quickly told his family what the king said. "I wonder what kind of ball the king was talking about" his wife who didn't go to her shop said. "Whatever the king meant, let's hope for the best" Gabrielle who was beside her mother added. "Here you go. Make a special meal. Today is a very good day" Mr Nolan handed some coins to his wife from his pay. A satisfied smile grew on Mrs Nolan's face as she took the coins from her husband. "Thank you honey, I'd be on my way to the market now. Gabby, you're going with me" Mrs Nolan said. Mr Nolan smiled at the elated mood his wife had and after she had left the house, he went to his room to rest. The satisfaction of working and getting paid enveloped him as he lay on his bed. The last child Kayden, had also gone to his daily routine of training to be a knight. The knights in Denver were trained soldiers that fought during war times. During his free time, he'd ask Klaus or Marcus to teach him a few things. Neither of them held back their knowledge, they were willing to train the determined kid to the best of their knowledge. But Klaus and Marcus weren't soldiers that fought during wars, they were guards and did more of defense when faced with opposition. But their training wasn't so different from the trainings given to knights, it was just less cumbersome. So they willingly shared their knowledge with Kayden. Mr and Mrs Nolan were unaware of the little trainings Marcus or Klaus gave Kayden because they only trained when his parents were not home and also, because of the fact that his parents weren't still accepting his aspiration to be a soldier. Now with his mother away from home and his father resting in his room, he asked Klaus to teach him a few things. There were at the backyard of the house and Kayden held his wooden sword. "The last time, you taught me how to swing a sword properly. What are we going to do today sire?" Kayden asked excitedly.

Klaus who was sitting on a stone said to him "We'd also be doing that today. For every stage you must attain mastery, you're yet to master that" Klaus said and the smile on Kayden's face died down. "Alright sire" Kayden said a little dispirited because he wanted to learn something new. But he listened to Klaus and followed his orders.

A long distance away from the Nolan family house in Cornswell, Sebastian was in the sitting room with his ministers concluding their discussion about tax issues. After the meeting, he went to his room. Sitting on a rocking chair close to the fire place, he turned to Benjamin who was standing in a corner. He had already concluded every meeting he had after returning from the square and now, he had time to think about other things. But before he could start the conversation, Benjamin beat him to it. "My Lord, about the ball..." He paused for a moment before continuing "What kind of ball is it going to be?". "What would be best for the innocent creature?" Sebastian asked himself but he didn't lower his tone because he knew that Benjamin knew he wasn't asking him but he was talking to himself. Sebastian's eyes had left Benjamin and was now settling on the crackling fire place. "A debutante ball" came Sebastian's answer as he turned to Benjamin again. "Okay sire, preparations for it will begin immediately" Benjamin said and bowed slightly before leaving the room. As he walked down the corridors, he wondered who this "innocent creature" whom the king spoke of was.
