Chapter 60

"Sean, why did Cora leave?" After a while of silence, I asked.

Sean hesitated. He probably didn't know what to say.

"Didn't I treat her well enough?" I continued to ask. "I allowed her to go to school and do the part-time job. Why wasn't she satisfied?"

Sean rolled his eyes and didn't reply.

But I kept on staring at him and waited for his answer.

Sean was uncomfortable being stared at by me and could only say, "I don't know. I'm not a woman. Of course, her living standard here was much better than she had in her pack."

  "Living standard?" I frowned.

"You know. It's hard to say if she was really happy here," Sean added. "I rarely saw her laugh."

Sean was right. I also rarely saw Cora laugh. She always smiled timidly. I almost thought she was born like that. But after all, she was just a girl.

I doubted if she was happy here. Otherwise, she wouldn't have run away. She didn't leave her pack either.
