Chapter 24

Even though Adina had made up her mind for break up for a while she still couldn’t help but cry. It felt like someone had grabbed her heart and was squeezing the hell out of it. She tried her best to hold her tears but it weren’t helping one bit.

Adina’s phone started ringing again. She cut the call knowing it was probably Fredrick calling.

That night she cried herself to sleep. Even though it was her who broke up it didn’t mean it didn’t affect her. She broke up with Fredrick because he had become too carefree and unserious. It was too obvious that he didn’t care. Multiple times she tried telling him how insecure she felt but he never did anything. That wasn’t the person she fell in love with. He had changed.

The next day Adina went to university with a puffy face. It was awfully obvious that she had been crying the night before. No one asked her anything and just assumed that she was sick.

“ Where’s Grey?” Sam asked Adina trying to strike up a conversation.

“ Don’t know. Haven’t talked to him”

Grey was unusually late. Adina was about to pick up her phone to text him when he walked into the cafeteria. He greeted everyone verbally and sat down next to Sam. Everyone frowned.

Did Grey just sit without properly greeting Adina and away from her at that. Even though everyone sensed something was off they didn’t say anything. Adina picked up her phone to text Grey but a call from Fredrick took over her screen. Pissed she cut the call and put her phone on silent. Needing fresh air she got up and told everyone that she was going for a walk.

“ you coming Grey?”

“ for you? off course” Rachel joked. She was a new addition to the group and her current favourite hobby was to pry between Grey and Adina.

“ shut the fuck up will you” Adina replied and walked off. Everyone was shocked. This was the first time they had seen Adina snapping back. She never takes offense to such jokes instead says something even more offensive.

Sam asked Grey what was up with Adina. Shaking his head grey got up and went after her. Knowing she would be at their favourite spot he didn’t waste time. Upon arriving he saw her sitting on the bench by the lake crying.

“Adina?” startled by the familiar voice Adina quickly wiped her tears away and put on her best smile but with her eyes red from crying the smile could do only so much.

“ Why are you crying?” Grey was pissed because of last night but that was the last of his worry at this point. Adina opened her mouth to say something but her phone screen lit up showing a text from Fredrick.

‘ how could you do this to me? did you ever even love me?”

That text went on her heart like a sharp knife. All the tears she was holding back burst out and she started crying like crazy. picking up her phone she threw it towards the lake.

“WOAH! “ luckily Grey was fast enough to catch it in time.

“Adina what’s going on? What happened?”

By that time Adina had no energy left to hide anything so she told him everything. Grey was in utter disbelief but he knew one thing. Adina wasn’t the one wrong in this. He has known her for a year at this point. She was someone who would never end a simple friendship let alone a serious relationship unless someone drives her to the edge.

“i just couldn’t take it anymore. Every time we used to talk I would always end up weighting my worth in his life. I constantly told him about my insecurity but never did he ever did a single fucking thing. Still I tried holding on just because I wanted us to happen but now after driving me off the cliff he still has the nerve to ask did I ever love him? “

Adina chewed those words out while pushing her tears back. She didn’t even want to cry in the first place. putting her face in her hands she hid her face knowing she looks awful right now.

“That bastard made a girlfriend out of league and calibre”

Adina paused and looked at Grey. The sun was directly behind him so his face was blurry. None of his features were prominent except for his jet black hair and hazel eyes. Those hazel eyes at that moment held nothing but truth which soothed Adina without her even realising.

“He was wrong to treat you so awfully but you treated so in the best way possible until the very end. You are an angel Adina and he is an idiot”

“ If I am then why does it feel like hell? Would I be fine?”

“ it’s okay to feel like that but this time will pass Adina. Does it matter if you aren’t the same? because regardless of you change or not in the end I will be there for you”

“Would you still be there if I turned into a total bitch?” Grey cracked a smile to which he received a slap on his forearm from Adina.

‘really that’s what she is worried about?’ grey thought before smiling and replying “ I would still be there even if you turned into a worm”

Adina cracked a smile.

“ Finally the girl smiled”

“ so? What did you expect from the girl who just had a bad breakup?”

“ for how bitchy you can be I thought he would be the one crying”

“ I am pretty sure he is crying too and more than me at that”

Their bickering went on like usual as Adina totally forgot about her breakup and started smiling.

Grey was happy. Not only because he was able to lift up her mood but for another reason as well. In a dark corner deep inside his heart their lit up a desire and hope.

But the poor guy hadn’t realised it yet. That his care for Adina wasn’t just because they were good friends but for something more than that.
