But can what has been forsaken be gained back? Because now Evelyn, the one to have breathed vitality in his numb, orphaned heart, had her own life, and a little boy calling her mother. And while he left his life full of dead bodies behind, did that life really let him go?

Ryan restrained his smile as he saw how much Dinaia was being affected. She had a brash personality, but she could be even more emotional underneath that appearance. And as there was hardly a chance for that to happen, when it did happen, the waves could only hit the softest part of her hidden under her tough exterior harder.

He held back a sigh, his heart softening for her, and looked at her calmly, without any more cynicism:

"You got it right. Daemon disappeared two years later because of Connel, again. Much of Connel's animosity for Daemon came from his jealousy, his affection for Evelyn that turned into an obsession. To separate him from her, he threatened to destroy Blue Peak orphanage, along with the lives of the orphans there. Daemon caved in, and he left, taking an opportunity in the army that appeared just at that time. It was his last act of gratitude for the orphanage, and he didn't know that Evelyn was pregnant then."
