chapter 7

Chapter 7

"Dad, if we can hunt our game in the forest, why don't we open a butcher shop?"

Dad looked at me and said, "We only hunt E and F rank monsters, and sometimes we get D rank monsters due to luck, but everyone in our village can hunt those."

"So why don't we order some adventurers for that, and we can dismantle it and sell it?"

"Because the people who have money to buy that meat will not buy from us. Every guild has its own butcher who does the job more accurately and knows how to dismantle different types of monsters. I don't know how to dismantle creatures like deer or lizards, and we don't know which part of the monster is more valuable. We have to ask about every new monster we hunt for its important parts."

"And I am a simple farmer; I have to watch my farm. I cannot go on a hunt daily."

"But why can't we go hunting daily?"

"Because we can only hunt after C rank and above adventurers clear the forest for a big quest. We haven't encountered any stronger monsters because they regularly hunt the stronger monsters seen in the forest, and the guild pays for clearing dangerous monsters."

"Dad, why doesn't the kingdom clear the forests and claim it?"

"You see, son, what we've seen is not even the edge of the Black Forest. We call it that because the deeper parts of this forest are so dangerous that even the mightiest hunters die searching for wealth. Parties of more than a hundred hunters vanish in the forest. Hundreds of parties disband daily. It is a very risky job to even clear the edges of the forest. Millions of people have to be sacrificed to build this kingdom. Alex, humans are very weak alone, child."

Chatting about these topics, we reached home. The sun was still up for another 2 to 3 hours. That's how my first hunt ended.

The next few months passed very smoothly. I learned a new spell and worked on my knife skills. It was time to harvest the potatoes on the farm. Previously, they hadn't let me help, but this time they didn't stop me. At my request, we sliced some potatoes very thin, then after washing and cooking them in water, we dried those chips.

When they dried, I asked my mom to fry some, and they loved it very much. We even sent some to Grandma with the help of the guild. Dad loves to season them with crushed herbs, but we like them with salt.

I continued to hunt with Dad. After many requests, I started to hunt alone, but only in cleared areas.

Six months had passed. I am now 7 years old. In the past, I hunted many horned rabbits, slimes, wild rats, and one time I got lucky and caught a Hiana, my first E-ranked monster that I hunted alone. It was roaming alone in the forest, and it had an affinity with shadows. It was very hard to defeat it. When I returned, my leg was bleeding. Mom told me to stay at home for 10 days and not to hunt alone.

During these months, many times I had to stop my hunt because of warnings from the guild. When a D-rank or above monster was spotted on the edges of the forest, I was told to return home by people working for the guild. Some of those people were nice, but most were rude. But I loved my life, so I didn't neglect the warnings and returned home.

It was time for my first experience of school in this world, and I was not very excited for this phase of my new life.
