Chapter 40: A Turn for the Worse

“The coast is clear,” Griffin said as he poked his head out the door of Angela’s apartment into the empty hallway. There was no sign of Ted, who Angela assumed had gone to the coffee shop without her as it was already late in the afternoon. She’d have to apologize when she saw him. When Griffin was gone, she’d be looking for a friend to help while away the time on Sunday afternoons.

“Thanks for being careful,” Angela said, buttoning the top of his shirt. “I know you think it’s silly, so that makes it mean even more to me.”

“Whatever you need,” Griffin said, kissing her nose. “Are you sure you don’t want me to help you hang your painting before I go?”

“No, not yet,” Angela answered, staring into his eyes. “I have to find the perfect spot for it.”

“I already did,” Griffin said. “Right here in your apartment.”

“But which wall?” Angela asked. “If I put it in the hallway, it has great light, but I think the big wall in the kitchen would really show it off.”
