Chapter 42: An Unexpected Friendship

The next morning, Angela woke early to call the hospital to check on Rory. Angela, Jack and Griffin had remained at the hospital until late hoping Rory might wake up, but still sedated, he'd slept soundly straight through the night. At midnight, his nurse suggested Angela go home and get some sleep, promising to call her if anything changed. They returned to Jack's house, where Angela managed to drift off for short periods of time in her childhood bed, but mostly she counted the hours until she could return to Rory's side.

The nurse who answered the phone in the morning, recognized Angela’s voice right away. “Yes, Ms. Pearson, he’s awake and full of beans today. I’d say he’s definitely ready to go home. He’s been calling for you.”

“Oh dear, he’s not upset, is he?” asked Angela, worried.

“Not at all,” the nurse said. “He’s working on his second breakfast.”
