Chapter 46: No More Hiding

The next morning, Jack was off early to visit Angela’s old neighbor, Esther. Angela kissed him goodbye. “Give my best to Esther,” she said.

“I will,” Jack said. He had a bouquet of brightly-colored tulips squeezed in his hand. “I hope she likes these flowers.”

“That’s very thoughtful of you, Dad. I’m sure they will brighten her day.”

“I miss her around here,” Jack said. “She’s a good friend.”

“Well, let’s hope she’s home soon,” Angela said. It would also be for the best when it came to Ted, she thought. Though Griffin had been careful not to run into him again, Ted seemed more wary whenever Angela and he met in the hallway. It was as if he were angry at her for something. She’d tried apologizing for missing meeting him for coffee that Sunday she’d spent with Griffin instead, but he’d brushed her off, and since then, avoided her. The easy banter they’d once shared had disappeared when Griffin appeared. So, yes, it would be nice to have Esther back.
