Chapter 47: Time to Talk

After Angela dropped Rory off at daycare, she quickly dialed Griffin’s number. “Hello, Angel,” he answered, his voice as smooth as caramel. But Angela was in no mood to indulge herself in his charms.

“We have to talk,” she said. “Right away.”

“Sounds serious,” Griffin replied. “Where are you?”

“I can be home in ten minutes,” she said. “Rory’s at daycare, and Jack’s out.”

“Now you’ve got my attention,” said Griffin slyly.

“This is serious, Griffin. I mean it.”

“Okay,” Griffin said, shedding his playful tone. “I can be there in fifteen minutes."

“Thanks,” Angela said, her heart pounding. The time had come. It was now or never. One way or the other, she was ready to tell the truth.

“Are you sick?” Griffin asked as he rushed through her apartment door. “Are your father and Rory okay?” Out of habit, Angela glanced out into the hallway to see if anyone else was there. She was relieved to see it was empty. She already had enough explaining to do.
