Chapter 58: Narrowing the Focus

Jack looked concerned as he hurried into the room to join Angela and Griffin. “The officer said you needed me,” he said, nervously addressing his daughter. “Has there been any news? Did they find Cookie and Rory?”

“No, Dad,” Angela said, tears welling in her eyes. “They’re still trying to figure out if Cookie took him on her own or if anyone else was involved.”

“What do you mean?” Jack asked, switching his gaze to Griffin, as though Angela wasn’t making any sense. “Why would someone want to take them?”

“Do you think they’ve been kidnapped?” Griffin interrupted. “Because we’ll pay the ransom. Whatever it is, we’ll gladly pay. I just want them returned as quickly as possible.

“Please don’t get ahead of yourself,” Agent Jenkins said calmly. “It’s important to keep a cool head while we follow up on every lead. At this point, we can’t rule anything in or out.”

“So, what did you want from me?” Jack asked.
