Chapter 62: A Big Break

Once Jenkins was gone, Angela tried to take a nap, but her mind was racing. Rather than pace the apartment, she grabbed her keys and headed out the door.

“Where are you going?” Griffin asked, looking concerned.

“To check the mail,” Angela said. “I think it’s too soon for them to contact us by letter, but it’s worth a try.”

“Good idea,” Griffin said, suddenly hopeful. “Do you want me to go with you?”

Angela shook her head. “You stay with Dad. I’ll be right back.” She couldn't bear to see the disappointment on his face if there was nothing there.

Downstairs, she hesitated when she saw Ted standing at his mailbox. She immediately felt ashamed and guilty. Ted had never been anything but kind to her, and she had neglected their friendship as soon as Griffin appeared, not to mention, cast suspicion on him when Rory went missing. Despite that, he smiled sympathetically when he saw her. “Any news?” he asked.

“Nothing,” Angela answered with a sigh.
