8. Evolution Choices

For the next week, Zion would go out to the middle zone of the forest to hunt beasts that were a higher rank than him yet weaker or, at least, less intelligent than himself.

Because of this, he had finally earned almost enough to level up to Level 5. He was fighting the last beast he would need to increase his level.

Zion pounced at the Swift Rabbit after damaging its legs so it couldn't run anymore, taking a bit of its neck and quickly snapping it with a slightly sickening crunch.

He dropped the rabbit from his mouth and then looked up, hearing the system's notification.

[[Swift Rabbit killed (D), 20 EXP earned.]]

[[Higher rank beast killed, 15 EXP earned.]]

[[Congratulations, you are now ready to evolve. View the evolution tree to make your choice.]]

Zion grinned as his tail flicked behind him happily, 'Finally! It's been over half a month, and I'm finally ready to evolve. Let's head back to the burrow.' He picked up the rabbit's corpse and returned it to his burrow.

He had extended a part of the burrow to have a disguised exit/entrance near the edge of the middle zone. That way, he didn't have to keep travelling out in the open between zones.

He placed the rabbit in his food chamber and went to his sleeping chamber before laying down comfortably, curling his tail around him as he finally looked at the system.

'Nothing in the spells has changed. Have gained a single new skill which is quite handy.' He chuckled, remembering when he gained the skill.

[[Tree Run: Run up a tree with speed and agility to attack from above. Successful attacks will do 150% more damage and confuse the target for 10 seconds.]]

He had to run up a tree to escape from a stupid, sick wolf, the very same one it seemed, that had chased him his first day.

Although it had become short-sighted and feeble so, he was able to run up a tree, and when it stopped below the tree, he suddenly had the idea to run back down the tree and leap on its head, slashing his claws across its muzzle and face before he jumped away from it.

The wolf had howled in pain and then seemed like a drunk person as it started stumbling all over the place. Zion was confused but still took the chance and successfully attacked it.

Zion shook his head, remembering the event, before focusing on the option beside his level and mentally pressing it.

The screen changed to show a huge tree filled with lines and little photo boxes; however, they were all greyed out, and he couldn't see what they were.

He looked to the very bottom and saw four options that weren't greyed out at the bottom, but above that, a line of 9 boxes only had one highlighted.

He checked out the first 4, clicking on the one to the far left. It grew in size and showed the information of the evolution.

[[Species: Long Tailed Fox.

Rank: D

Strength: This Fox is exceptionally cunning and intelligent, able to outwit even a genius out of their very clothes and fast enough to escape afterwards, usually leaving just the sight of its long tail vanishing into the bushes.

Weakness: Although smart and fast, this Fox isn't the strongest and prefers to stay behind the scenes. It is also known as the Coward Fox.]]

'Oh, I didn't expect to get their strengths and weaknesses. Yeah no. I'm smart, yes, but I still prefer fighting myself.' He frowned slightly and moved to the center-left option.

[[Species: Short Tailed Fox.

Rank: D

Strength: This Fox is highly aggressive and loves to fight any opponent. Often attacking foes stronger than it, it has longer and stronger claws and fangs, with a larger build and a shorter tail to help prevent it from being grabbed.

Weakness: Due to its habit of constantly attacking things stronger than it head-on, it isn't the smartest of the bunch and doesn't usually live past three years old.]]

'This one's like the opposite of the Long-Tailed Fox form. While not bad, I don't like losing intelligence and becoming a battering ram with a short lifespan.' He clicked his tongue softly as he shook his head, moving to the centre-right option.

[[Species: Iron Furred Fox.

Rank: D

Strength: This Fox focuses heavily on defence, its fur becoming as strong as iron to keep itself safe from foes while still attacking itself.

Weakness: With its fur taking on properties of iron, its speed is weakened enough to make it easier prey. It's a fox-sized tank, perfect for a party.]]

'A fox needs its speed, so defensive is out.' He sighed softly, 'So far, I'm not finding anything good, and I only have two more options.' He clicked on the far right one.

[[Species: All Seeing Fox.

Rank: D

Strength: This Fox is a balanced species, covering all main focuses with the uncanny ability to assess its foes. It isn't afraid to attack if it knows it can win the fight but also knows when to back away from a fight it can't win.

Weakness: It has a slower growth rate due to no focused stat.]]

'That's not bad... basically an all rounder. Able to attack, defend and dodge. With just the slow growth.' He nodded to himself as his eyes finally flicked up to the final one.

He clicked it and it opened up. As he read its information his eyes widened in surprise, 'No way...'
