KADEN
Since Kaden had heard that loud clash by Storm's window, since he had walked Avery out of his room the previous day, citing a headache immediately after, since he had gone over to see Storm, and she had walked him out, forbidding him to never see her again, he was tethering on a tiny thread between sanity and madness.
Was this how it was? Kaden thought, finishing another cup of alcohol. How would he feel then if his lycan was available?
Even if he wasn't sure of the possessiveness of his wolf since he hadn't really had a real woman when it had been around, one thing Kaden was sure of was that he wouldn't have left Storm's room that night, after she had screamed right after she had woken up, whether she had wanted him to stay in or not. His lycan wouldn't have allowed it.
Lycans, as they were very powerful, were very possessive. And since he descended from a royal bloodline, it made things much worse. His friends have been trying to reach him, especially Casper, but he had shut them out, knowing that the advice they would give him would be the same as Liam's; to stay away from innocent Storm.
But how would he manage to do that? Just barely a day without having any decent conversation with her had thrown him over the edge, totally off balance.
"Kaden, I understand that losing your wolf might be worse than you could ever imagine…But we are not even sure that it is lost forever…just stay strong as usual, and give it some time. Personally, I am sure that Aries hadn't gone anywhere. It is probably subdued due to years of being in some kind of chemical bondage." His Beta, Casper stated, tapping him at intervals on his shoulder.
They had decided to let out steam tonight, to unwind, by coming to the club tonight. Kaden believed that it was for his sake though. But he was far from being cheered up. He was still down, and even though he knew that it was ruining the jolly mood, he also knew they would prefer it this way than him acting all okay whilst he was almost dead inside.
This was the inner circle, and pretense wasn't treated lightly.
"Yeah, sure.'' Kaden finally spoke, taking another gulp of the alcohol, not that it would have any effect on him though. He wished for the first time that the reverse was the cases.
The absence of their wolves had somehow not affected their drinking capacity. His kind hardly got drunk. They had chosen to see and accept this present fact as a pointer that their wolves were still alive, somewhere within them.
"I don't think that the wolf is the matter." Liam muttered, looking at Kaden with uncertainty, probably gauging if Kaden would skin him alive if he ever mentioned Storm, but Kaden just sighed, and threw back his head, such that his neck was lying lightly on the apex of the chair. He was tired, and didn't care less if Liam exposed his night schemes to the group. They were gonna know one way or the other, after all.
Casper and Lent, his gamma, darted glances between him and Liam, their eyes furrowing tightly for the news that they might be foreign to.
"Talk to us, Liam. What is the matter with the king?" Lent asked, ignoring the bouts of glare Kaden threw at him. He had warned them never to address him by that.
But Lent…he seems to always use that whenever he was pissed off or angry with Kaden.
"Well, I think our Alpha has found a new love object." Liam answered, cursing when Kaden threw at him, the cup in his hand. Liam dodged of course, causing the cup to smash on the floor and attract the attention of the club servers. But then, they said nothing, other than running helter skelter to clean up the mess, like they should if they wanted to keep their jobs and the club still running.
"Storm is not an object. Never say that again.'' Kaden stated, steel in his voice, surprising Casper and Lent, Lent especially. After all, he was, or rather, had been dating his cousin. Yes, past tense. No way was Kaden making the same mistake twice.
"Jeez Kaden, calm down. Who is Storm? Where did you meet her?" Casper asked, subtly shifting the bottle in front of Kaden to the other side, obviously afraid that the next thing Kaden might throw would be it.
Well, his beta would be right if they ever addressed Storm in that language.
"He met her at our bar at the outskirts of this town. She had come to collect a debt or so. She had been the one to treat my wound. The one I told you that has some kind of healing powers." Lent replied, relaxing back on his chair, his hands folded across his chest, his gaze unwavering form my face. "What do you think you are doing, Kaden?"
Okay, Here it goes. Kaden thought, massaging the centre of his forehead with his index finger and thumb.
"I know she is beautiful and all that, and that she is sweet to look at. Hell, her healing powers are a turn on. But no. You can't have her. Not because you are dating my cousin-No, I don't really care about that, that was Avery's decision to make despite my warnings. No, it's about the girl. She might not be a normal human but she is still one. I know that you are curious about her, but please don't bring her into our world. She can't take it. She is too good for that. And since she is not your mate, I don't see why you are so hung up on her. Let her go, Kaden. Don't hurt her. She is too good for that." Lent concluded, before taking a sip from his beer.
Kaden knew Lent was serious, but he also knew that his gamma might be asking for the impossible.
