CHLOE's POV
‘‘So... your boyfriend passed away?’’ Easton inquired, his hand running through my hair as I pressed my cheek against his chest. ‘‘I’m so sorry, Miss Bell. May Jasper find peace in—’’
‘‘No!’’ I pulled away from him, looking up at his face. ‘‘Jasper didn’t die.’’
‘‘What?’’ Easton looked so confused as he stared at me, and I wanted to burst out laughing, but the tears just won’t stop falling down from my eyes.
‘‘He's still alive...’’ I said, wiping the tears from my eyes with my hands.
Easton reached into his pocket and pulled out a white handkerchief and handed it to me.
‘‘Thank you...’’ My voice trailed off as I blew my nose into the handkerchief.
Easton watched me with amusement, but his mouth parted when I handed the white cloth back to him. ‘‘Oh, no… No, Miss Bell, keep it. It’s yours now.’’
‘‘Are you sure?’’ I inquired because I was aware of the high cost of this small cloth. Much more expensive than the house dress I was wearing.
