Nina propped her chin with her hand, smiling as she watched her younger brother chatter on and on.
"Right, right, I heard from a colleague in the network prosecution that there was a bizarre case recently, some scam message popped up online."
"The message said, if you send them 20 @Coins, they'll send you a video of Sun Jack selling his body, and believe it or not, there are actually idiots who believe it."
Suddenly, she felt very happy.
She and her brother could get off work early and have their own time to do what they liked, enjoying organic food in the warmth of the room while chatting leisurely.
Wasn't this the very life she had yearned for all these years? She had finally achieved it.
Just then, outside the window, a drone zipped past the rain-struck glass, swiftly issuing a rating, happiness rate 87%.
As the drone climbed rapidly, the various data of each household was quickly collected by big data and calculated into happiness rates.
All this accumulated data was then averaged in the city system, gradually turning into a series of charts on Sun Jack's system interface.
However, Sun Jack barely glanced at the data before shutting it off because sitting before him was a man wearing a silver helmet with the logo of Class 3 on his chest.
"Mister Sun, all eight classes of the BCPD have started their work as usual, so why exactly is Class 3 missing? Can you give me a reason?" The face was hidden by the helmet, but the tone conveyed his emotions.
"Reason? There is no reason. I simply find you disagreeable, so what? Is that not allowed?" Sun Jack propped his feet up on the desk and casually lit a cigarette.
Faced with Sun Jack's brazen reply, the representative of Class 3 abruptly stood up. "Jack, are you really that complacent? Aren't you afraid that your city won't have an AI rebellion? Don't forget the lessons of The Previous Epoch!"
"I've seen and dealt with plenty of intelligent AIs. I'll have someone specifically responsible for that in the future, so you don't need to worry about it."
When he saw Sun Jack's attitude, the man was clearly angered. He stood up suddenly, ready to spit out some harsh words, but then a hand reached out from the side and grabbed his shoulder, forcibly holding him down.
He, too, wore a silver helmet, though his was triangular.
Following that, the wearer of the triangular helmet dragged the man with the round helmet back and sat down to negotiate with Sun Jack, and his words were completely different now.
"Sorry, the young man doesn't know any better, please don't take offense. We are here to request, not to demand."
Hearing the change in the man's tone, Sun Jack lowered his feet, "Stop beating around the bush. I knew why you were coming even before you did. Let me guess, you want the Utopia Federation to start paying protection money to Class 3 instead of the FFP, right?"
Seeing that Sun Jack guessed their intent, the man forthrightly admitted it. "Yes, that is the rule set by the surviving humans of this epoch, regardless of the system or the number of people. An organization must be established independently to prevent the recurrence of the Awakened AI's actions."
"And what if I don't pay?" Sun Jack glanced at the previous receipts from the FFP and realized it was no small sum.
Roundhead behind him was angrily trying to say something, but he was quickly cut off by the other party, "We won't harm you if you don't pay. Section 3's objective has always been to confront Awakened AIs."
Before taking the money, he first put Sun Jack on a pedestal. "Mister Sun, I've read your story. You got everyone to stand up so they wouldn't have to kneel as slaves to capitalists anymore. I have great respect for you."
"Since you are such a generous person, shouldn't you consider the future of human civilization? If an AI Crisis really happened, everything you've created would be utterly destroyed."
Sun Jack stuck out his Little Thumb, boredly picking at his ear. "AI Crisis, AI Crisis, I've heard this damn term since I was a kid and I'm sick of it. When have I ever seen an actual AI Crisis?"
"Is that so? Like those things in the sky, perhaps?" The other party's words stopped Sun Jack's fidgeting fingers, and the atmosphere in the office became somewhat tense.
"Your prior cooperation with AIs against FFP, if judged by previous decisions, has already constituted a betrayal of humanity." Clearly, Section 3 knew everything. Sometimes, this kind of information needed the right moment to be revealed to be more valuable.
"It was those fucking FFP executives who used them first! I merely used them back with a counter-scheme!"
"But indisputably, you've cooperated with a significant number of rebellious AIs. According to procedure, if the evidence holds true, you will face the boycott of all other capitals."
Hearing this, Sun Jack was exhausted and laid his cards on the table. "Enough, enough, no more bullshit. This is just you using this information to blackmail me, right? Fine, I agree. As of now, the Utopia Federation welcomes Section 3 back. Happy now?"
Upon hearing Sun Jack's words, the other party smiled slightly, "I'm glad Mr. Sun stands on the side of humanity's greater good,"
"Cut the crap. Whoever pays you is on the side of humanity's greater good. But don't get too happy; I have a condition: all information from Section 3 must be transparent to me."
"That goes without saying. Section 3 is under the jurisdiction of the City Federation anyway." Clearly, Sun Jack could fulfill his duties just like FFP, and there were some matters Section 3 could negotiate.
Especially since Tapai, a glaringly obvious Awakened AI, walked by, they were directly blind to him, pretending he didn't exist.
Although Section 3 claimed to be impartial, on matters not so perilous, they were not beyond making concessions.
"Also, don't touch the AIs on the space station. Right now, it's all good with everyone sticking to their own turf." Sun Jack stretched out his finger towards the sky,
"We've detected they are gathering mechanical debris from the Moon Ring as well as space junk; obviously, they are not satisfied with just a space station."
Tapai, standing beside them, hurriedly chimed in to support, "So what do you want to do, blow up the space station? If you do that, will that prevent them from fleeing? Can you eliminate all potential AI awakenings? Right now, they are just a pile of crap, and if you blow it up, you scatter it everywhere."
Sun Jack immediately followed Tapai's lead, "I'll talk sense into them. They're not idiots; they understand the risks and benefits. If normal negotiations fail, I will invite you to join forces against them."
"Are they your friends?" asked the person from Section 3 to Sun Jack.
Sun Jack shook his head, "Not really. But Tapai has a point. Can Section 3 handle all Awakened AIs? Even if you could kill them all, can you guarantee future AIs won't awaken?"
"As long as we continue to use the technology of Awakened AIs, even if the intelligence level is N2, the awakening of AIs is inevitable. Since that's the case, it's better to have them out in the open where they can be directly confronted."
Faced with Sun Jack's suggestion, the other party didn't express opposition nor agreement but simply stood up, turned around, and left.
